Still thinking about Sunday! 💛

Edited to add a con!

Hi all! I’m sorry, this is my last post for the night! It’s just so relaxing and fun to talk about names. After seeing some love for Sunday on my previous thread, I started thinking about what I love about it. I have been going back and forth about whether or not I should make it a wildcard name or keep it where it is on my Love-but-will-bit-use-list. Any feedback is welcome! I will list some pros and cons, sibling combinations, and potential middle names here!

Pros:
-Biblical connotation
-bright and energetic name
-unique without being obscure and unheard of
-the potential nicknames

  • having a spunky and fun first name with a classic middle name that she can go by if she wants when she’s older
-doesn’t match other names in terms of style ( also a con)

Cons:
-too unique or celebrity?
-unprofessional?
-too different from other favorite names to fit with siblings?
-the possibility she will not like her name and wish it was something else/ more classic?
-difficulty at school when learning the days of the the week or possibly being made fun of
-negative opinions from family and friends (because names are typically more traditional in our family, and I want my loved ones to like the name as much as I do!)

Siblings:
Audrey, Brooks, Declan, Sunday
Eliza, Owen, Bridget, Sunday
Madeline, Griffin, Caleb, Sunday
Anna, Sunday, Beckett, Harrison
Middles:

Sunday June
Sunday Juliet
Sunday Katherine
Sunday Ashlyn
Sunday Anna (if I don’t use it as a first name)
Sunday Madeline (if I don’t use it as a first name)
Sunday Olivia
Sunday Marie

I know this name is not for everyone, and am open to the good, the bad, and the ugly, as well as any other suggestions you may have. Thank you so much!! :butterfly::white_heart:

I do enjoy [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] - it’s warm and gentle but sparkly too; it has religious connotations but they’re not overly heavy; it gives you the nickname [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], or perhaps even Daisy; it’s bold but I don’t find it over the top.

I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] best! Mixing and matching your ideas, I’d do:

[name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], [name_f]Anna[/name_f] and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]

As for middles, [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_u]Marie[/name_u] are great!!

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] came to mind!

I think [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] is absolutely charming. It makes me think of hazy summer weekends, pastries at the corner café, strolling through markets, old songs on the radio. I imagine a rather adventurous girl with a big imagination, vintage clothes and a nonchalant smile. I’m not religious myself but can really see the appeal of it in that sense as a subtle nod.

Looking at your cons:

  • I get the worries of it being too ‘celebrity’ or unprofessional, it would have felt like that in my generation, but for kids now I don’t think it will read like that at all. After all, [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is trending and that was always seen as gothic and hopelessly quirky until now. Names are getting more diverse and it’s in good company with other word names like [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Poet[/name_u] or [name_u]Story[/name_u].

  • the possibility she will not like her name is always there no matter what name you choose! As for wishing for something more classic, maybe, but as you say you can always choose a more ‘conventional’ middle name (I also use this strategy!)

  • difficulty at school when learning the days of the the week or possibly being made fun of - I can see there being the odd comment when specifically learning about days of the week, but as above, I don’t think [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] is going to be ‘out there’ enough in upcoming generations to be teased unduly. I actually think it’s a potential it-girl name.

  • too different from siblings - this is probably the only one where I’m in agreement, I do think she stands out a bit from your other girl choices although she goes well with [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] imho.

For a middle name, I absolutely love [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]! Nostalgic, sunny and incredibly cool.

Sunday is gorgeous! :dove:

I think Sunday is really happy name she has this peaceful fun feeling. I picture summer days walking through the farmers markets eating hot sweet pastries, purchasing fresh flowers and trinkets being sold on the stalls, buying ice cream from the ice cream truck and just enjoying the overall sunny days. However from a religious viewpoint I also get imagery surrounding Sunday service the peace surrounding the sermon, the happiness surrounding the churchgoers and pretty sounds of hymns. I think she’s lovely!

I wanted to go into further detail about your cons

~ I do associate the name with celebrities obviously Nicole Kidman daughter is Sunday (I actually love her children’s names Sunday Rose + Faith Margaret but I do think Sunday Rose does feel a little bit Sunday roast :joy::woman_facepalming:t3:) and Ferne McCann but I wouldn’t say the name has an exclusive celebrity feel. In my opinion there is a massive difference between Sunday and Sir (Beyoncé son’s name) I would say Sir is an exclusive celebrity name whereas Sunday is definitely more usable.

~ I actually do not find professionalism a concern with baby names nowadays children are called a variety of different names nowadays and these children will be going to work one day so most likely your Sunday will also partake in a meeting featuring a River.

~ looking at names you like I think some off them work I would shake up your pairings a little to offset Sunday. Brooks + Griffin would be gorgeous with Sunday they have the right level of outdoorsy brightness. Concerning girls I think Eliza works wonderfully with Sunday she has the right level of playfulness. So I would have Eliza, Sunday, Brooks + Griffin. Then I would go for a classic middle name from your middle name options I think Sunday Juliet and Sunday Katherine are stunning. I would then do a more ‘unique’ middle name for Eliza. Maybe Eliza Hyacinth or Eliza Jubilee. Similarly a more classic middle name for Brooks like William but more ‘unique’ for Griffin something like Griffin Evermore.

~ there is always a possibility your child will not like their name my parents tried to go as neutral as possible when naming their children. They didn’t want to go with names that could pigeonhole them to a certain community so they didn’t choose names ‘too stereotypically Jewish’ or ‘too stereotypically traveller’ my sister Helen still doesn’t like her name. They choose very carefully and her name is such a timeless option. Helen still hates her name. It’s out of your control I wouldn’t worry to much and I also do not think Sunday will standout especially as kids are being called such unusual names nowadays.

~ again kids are called such a wide variety of names I do not think she’ll be picked on at school when learning days off the week. Just like I don’t see a Summer being picked on when learning about seasons or April being picked on when learning about months.

I say go for Sunday she’s lovely :white_heart:

@Greyblue Thank you so much!! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_m]Bridge[/name_m], and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] is my favorite of my own subsets too! And I LOVE your suggestion of [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]! I idea of the name being bold because I want my future children, and all children, to carry themselves that way. [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is incredible! I never thought of it, and it’s sentimental! Probably stealing this!!

Thank you again! :blossom::white_heart:

@persephonescrown Thank you so much!! This is all so helpful, and you’ve made me feel so much better! I agree completely that [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] stands out more more than the other names, which concerns me a little bit. Then I thought about it a little more after reading your reply. I want the names to fit nicely together, but siblings typically go off on their own when they’re older. So I want each name to stand on its own. Which begs the question: Is [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] strong enough as a stand-alone name? I think it is! I do love it with [name_u]Brooks[/name_u]!

Thank you again! :white_heart::butterfly:

@tori101 Thank you so much!! You make so many great points here. And thank you for sharing how your parents chose names for you and your siblings. You are right that there is no guarantee, even when we choose with care. I also appreciate the point about her being in meetings with adults who have similar names. I do love [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], especially! And [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] has been a favorite for a long time. I also love how you have such vivid (and different ) imagery when picturing a girl named [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]. Now I do too!

Thank you again!! :blossom::yellow_heart:

I love

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f]

@Babynamequeen029 I know, right?! I thought about [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but wasn’t sure since both have such prominent a sounds. I do love the middle name [name_f]Kate[/name_f] though! [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is cute, and so is [name_u]Madison[/name_u]! [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] makes me wonder if I could get away with using a version another classic favorite of mine that I am unable to use as a first name:

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f]

Thank you again, and go Sunday!! :butterfly::white_heart:

I just did a NOTD for Sunday!! I really love the sound and feel of [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], and my guess is we will be seeing more day names in general.

@bemiranda Aww!! I really hope so! [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] has always been my favorite of the day names. But we have a family friend who has a friend from high school whose name is [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f]. I thought that was cool when I was little! It was long before day names were popular, I think. And in the incredible book One Two Three by [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] Frankel, the sisters all have names beginning with M. One of them is [name_f]Monday[/name_f]. It’s such a beautiful book, one of my absolute favorites!

Thank you so much for your reply! :butterfly::white_heart:

I love Sunday! Its bright and Sunny but not loud. As for your concerns…

Too unique or celebrity…
I understand the concern however with current naming trends I personally don’t think it’s going to stand out too much. I work with young kids and have taught many kids with names that older generation say are ‘unique’ but when everyone is unique it fits in. (Some names of kids I know or have taught include Ginger, Pepper, Lark, Wren, Meadow x2, Amawen, Leelo, Juniper x5, Ecko/Echo x2 Beacken, Bracken, Caliden, Sylphrynia, Renesmee, India Keeper and our youngest is Holiday)

Unprofessional…
Again I feel like when this generation grows up they’re all going to have unique names (at least much more so than current generations) and they’re going to be getting hired by the generation that named all of them so…I dont think itll be a problem

Too different from siblings…
It might be, however they’re gonna grow up together and she would just be part of the set to the kids. And then she would be and independent person when grown and people probably wont even know her siblings.

She might not like her name…
This can be said about any name you give a child. Some children may wish they had names that blend in others may wish they had names that stand out. You never know so you might as well choose a name that you love.

School…
I dont think she’ll have any problems learning the days of the week. She might get some teasing in kindergarten when they’re first learning the days. But I cant come up with any negative connotations with Sunday that would be a long term teasing issue.

Negative family opinions…
This one is personal to each family. However I will say my girls have unique names compared to the rest of their current cousins. Nobody has ever said anything once they were born. They just love them.

Like I said I think Sunday is great! We’ve given both our girls fairly unusual names, and so far they’ve been well recieved. We gave them more familiar middles and nicknames just to give them options, but so far I don’t imagine it being much of a problem.

@LibelluleClaire Thank you so much!! Your thoughts are so helpful! I probably won’t get over my love for Sunday anytime soon! I’m close with a cousin who is about 15 years older than I am. She gave her daughter a name that is very common now, but it wasn’t when she was born. I hadn’t heard of it before then. But now I just think of the name as her name. She is incredible at sports and very kind. Reading your reply, I think Sunday has the potential to be like that name. Thank you for helping me feel better about the concern with family members’ opinions. I don’t want to disappoint them, and I also have to choose a name I love. And right now, for girls, those are Eliza, Audrey, and Sunday. (Some others are still strong contenders though!) You are right that she will be loved regardless of her name, and eventually no one will give it a second thought.

Also, Holliday is so sweet!! Thank you again for your reply! :butterfly::white_heart:

@coffeeorangecats Thank you so much!! I’m sorry it’s not one you can use, it’s beautiful! I didn’t think it was one I was brave enough to use either. I’m so in love with it now, I think I have gotten over it! You have such beautiful suggestions here. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites, in no particular order, are:

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Lola[/name_f] (I never would have thought of this one!)

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (Very special because my paternal grandparents met in the [name_f]Air[/name_f] Force, and my dad and uncle are named after aviators. I also just love the name, even though it’s popular. I could probably get past the initials spelling the word sad in this case! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::face_holding_back_tears:)

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] (So sweet!)

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (I like that she could shorten this to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] if she doesn’t like Sunday!)

[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (I love this one so much!! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think both names including a strong a is an issue? I love the combination and the fact that [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is an [name_u]Irish[/name_u] name! I’m just a little unsure about the repeated sound.)

Thank you so much for your reply! :yellow_heart::blossom:

We just found out we’re pregnant after TTC for awhile now. We have a [name_f]Myla[/name_f] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] and have decided to not find out the gender for this baby. We’d decided on [name_u]Indy[/name_u] [name_m]Silas[/name_m] for a boy a long time ago. I had suggested [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] for our girl option and my husband loves it but since suggesting it, I’ve been on the fence about using it. Your post has made me soo excited to us it if this baby is a girl! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband wants the name to be [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f] but I agree with you that it should probably be something more classic to balance it out.

Thank you so much for sharing it post! I’ve loved reading through everyone’s comments. It’s really inspired me
