Story Jean

What are your honest thoughts on [name_u]Story[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]? Or [name_u]Story[/name_u] on its own?

It’s somewhat different from my usual style of vintage nicknames or nature names, but can’t seem to get it out of my head the past couple of months.

We are nickname people and I’m not sure there are any? Stor? I have a nephew named [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] so I feel like that’s weirdly matchy lol but wouldn’t let that keep me from using it. I’ve always loved [name_u]Rory[/name_u] but found it difficult to say so maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to it?

I’m also a writer so I guess it’s kind of cheesy, but I don’t care!

Thanks,
x

I think it’s an ultra cute combo. Maybe [name_f]Ree[/name_f] like [name_f]Ree[/name_f] [name_m]Drummond[/name_m] for the nickname?

[name_u]Story[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is absolutely adorable! I’m not typically a fan of either one, but I really enjoy them together. I wouldn’t worry about cousin [name_u]Lyric[/name_u].

As for nn’s: PP’s suggestion of [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] nn [name_u]Story[/name_u] is great! [name_f]Ree[/name_f], [name_f]Tori[/name_f], [name_f]Jeannie[/name_f] (for middle) are the only other’s I can think of

I was going to suggest [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] as well! I think [name_u]Story[/name_u] is adorable on its own though

[name_u]Story[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is a lovely combo, I think it fits well with your other names. When I saw it, I actually thought that you could use [name_u]Rory[/name_u] as a nn, but there’s also [name_f]Ro[/name_f], RoRo, Toto, [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] and [name_f]Sosie[/name_f].

Disclaimer: [name_u]Story[/name_u] is not my naming style and I have a hard time recommending it because if I was an employer getting a resume with that name on it, my opinion of the applicant, right or wrong, would immediately go down.

I think you should really consider [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] as mentioned above. It fits with your Vintage naming style and allows for a nickname (which you desire) of [name_u]Story[/name_u] (which you currently love). You could get the best of all worlds with that.

[name_u]Story[/name_u] is odd and boring (coming from someone who loves to read!). A boy named [name_u]Lyric[/name_u]? [name_m]Uber[/name_m]-feminine.

[name_f]Tori[/name_f], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], Ror Ror, Ri Ri, [name_f]SiSi[/name_f], [name_m]Tor[/name_m].

I’ve never actually heard of [name_u]Story[/name_u], but I kind of like it! [name_u]Jean[/name_u] isn’t my favorite, although it seems to go well with [name_u]Story[/name_u]. Some other middle name ideas are [name_f]Belle[/name_f] or [name_f]Paige[/name_f] (haha, like a page in a storybook). [name_m]Tor[/name_m] would be a good nn, as well as [name_f]Tori[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f] (like S-ie, bc [name_u]Story[/name_u] starts with S), [name_u]Rory[/name_u] (which I love, like you. it’s usually used on [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] though).

I think [name_u]Story[/name_u] is a bit odd as a full name, but it’s very sweet as a nickname! I think pp’s suggestion of [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u] is lovely, although I do think it would work as a nickname for more classic [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], or [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f].

I am a human resources director and I don’t know anyone who would discriminate based on name. People may talk about a candidate’s name, but that also may make them memorable to the recruiter. No one with stellar credentials and resume is getting passed by. My husband is an attorney for a very large firm, working in finance-- about as buttoned- down as it gets-- and he works with people with very classic names and very unusual names. Employment is NOT the issue. (Have you read about Dr. Marijuana Pepsi? That’s an extreme case and I’m not comparing [name_u]Story[/name_u] [name_u]Jean[/name_u], I just want to point out that she loved her name and made it work. She’s also 45 years older than today’s uniquely named babies.)

Whether or not a child grows up enjoying having an unusual name IS an issue, but who can predict that? I’ve always enjoyed my more unusual name, my husband had no issues being known by first name, last initial. At least a classic middle balances a whimsical first.

Personally, I think [name_u]Story[/name_u] is adorable. I’ve never really liked [name_u]Jean[/name_u], but it does strike that balance of whimsical and classic very well.

I do not prefer [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] to [name_u]Story[/name_u] at all. It does not feel classic to me, but does feel on trend with today’s place names. On the other hand, [name_u]Story[/name_u] is on trend with other word names. Both are easy to pronounce, recognizable, etc. I don’t think you gain anything with [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] (unless, of course, you love it), but you lose the creative, whimsical vibe.
