Trying to find a good name for my second girl. The first is [name]Stella[/name]…
[name]Beatrix[/name] has been a front runner for a while, but I really like [name]Viola[/name].
My strange question is whether saying “[name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name]” sounds too much like that clapping game that goes “[name]Stella[/name] ola ola clap clap clap…etc…”
I don’t know any clapping games! I think [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] are beautiful together! [name]Viola[/name] is a stunning name, and I love Twelfth [name]Night[/name]; or, What You [name]Will[/name]. [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] is quite a “common” sister duo, I have seen/met a few. [name]Just[/name] a thought,
I would go with [name]Viola[/name]. [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] are connected yes, via “a” endings, but have unique feels to them. Plus you get the beautiful built in nickname of [name]Vi[/name].
I think the [name]Stella[/name] ola ola clapping game is perhaps a [name]North[/name] American thing! Wikipedia shows some variations according to whether you’re in Can/USA, certain provinces/states.
Thanks for the input (thanks to the poster below you as well) - I had no idea [name]Stella[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name] was a common sister duo. At least I’m down to two finalists in terms of names…progress.
Hahaha, I think when you start thinking about any combination of names for too long you can come up with something like that, some reason it doesnt sound exactly right.
[name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] are great together. They share that -la ending but have enough separating them to be distinct.
I don’t remember that game at all! Sounds amusing though :). I am still all in for [name]Viola[/name]. [name]Love[/name] it! It’s a stunning name and will pair nicely with sister [name]Stella[/name].
I think [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] are adorable together. I also like [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Violet[/name], which has a more distinct sound to it. I prefer both of those options to [name]Viola[/name]. [name]Viola[/name] has a slightly more solemn feel to it from my perspective. I think [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] share the same spunk.
What about [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Molly[/name] or [name]Ada[/name]?
Oh - and that pairing did not make me think of a clapping song: you are overthinking it Mama!
I’ve never heard of that game, but with [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] sharing the same ending sound, I think it takes away from them both. I agree with gourmista above who suggested [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Violet[/name]. I also really like [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] together!
ottilie: being that [name]Beatrix[/name] is at the top of my list, I’m disturbed that you’ve met quite a few! I am so unnecessarily anxious about popularity. I think it’s having worked so much with kids, and literally hearing the same few names over and over. But I’ve never met anyone with the name, and I grew up everywhere and nowhere. Bollocks.
To the OP: Since I pronounce [name]Viola[/name], VY luh, it does feel very close to [name]Stella[/name] to me. With pronunciation vy OH luh, it’s slightly more distinct (and also slightly more…eh, instrumental), but that “luh” gives a matchy feel to the sibset regardless. That said, I may have a soft spot for [name]Beatrix[/name].
[name]Stella[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] are fabulous together; [name]Beatrix[/name] is kind of one of my GP names. [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] feel too close for my liking.
I know that [name]Beatrix[/name] is rising the charts, but I wouldn’t worry about it being a on overly-popular name. I don’t have any facts to back this claim up of course
lexi - thanks…just had to look up what a “GP name” was!
It’s always nice to see a dad on here – welcome! I love [name]Viola[/name], but I feel like it is a little too similar to [name]Stella[/name] (which I also [name]LOVE[/name]), at least it would be for me. I think pp’s suggestion of [name]Violet[/name] is absolutely genius. [name]Beatrix[/name] isn’t up my alley. The name that goes with [name]Stella[/name] for me is [name]Agnes[/name], just because I know wonderful, lovely sisters (in their 70s) named [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name]. [name]Just[/name] thought I’d throw that in there for consideration.
P.S. I’m in the US and have never heard of that clapping game either. I agree that you’ve just thought about it too much.
It’s not that many, just an interesting thing. When I taught yoga there was a lady in my class who had daughter names [name]Stella[/name] & [name]Beatrix[/name], and one of my colleagues from the museum I used to work at had daughters with those names as well. And I have seen two birth announcements. So only four!
You could always use [name]Violet[/name] instead of [name]Viola[/name] if it truly bothers you. [name]Stella[/name] & [name]Violet[/name] sound nice together…
I am in the minority here in that I DID grow up playing [name]Stella[/name]-ella-ola a lot, and have even played it recently (not for fun; I volunteer at a youth group). [name]Even[/name] so, I would never have have thought of the connection between the game and the names [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] without you pointing it out, especially as [name]Viola[/name] is more VY-o-la and not like the instrument.
I don’t know the game, but I think [name]Viola[/name] is a little close to [name]Stella[/name]. I would do [name]Beatrix[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] instead for a sister. Some other possibilies that have a similar vibe are:
