Stretch Mark Cream

Does anyone know of a good preventative stretch mark cream?

From what I’ve read, there is no proof that any of the creams actually do anything at all. Some women are just prone to getting more. Definitely keep it moisturized to help with itching and just hope for the best!

I’m with stephyknee. I have done extensive research on this since I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant, and there is no reliable data that shows there is anything you can do to prevent them. Some women get them, some don’t. Sorry :frowning:
On that note, it couldn’t help to keep moisturized, I just wouldn’t spend a ton of money on any supposed fancy anti-stretchmark creams.

Thanks for the advice ladies! I will just go to the store and find a good moisturizer.

I know they say it’s all genetics, but I swear bio oil works. I was using your standard cocoa butter cream and started to see some little lines, switched to the oil and it actually reduced the couple I had and I didn’t get a single real stretch mark. It’s super greasy though.

I’ve also heard good stuff about Burts Bees mama bee belly butter.

Post deleted.

I used bio oil for my first pregnancy alongside Palmers [name_f]Coco[/name_f] butter oil and some avocado oil I forget the name of.

This time I read something random about there being some nasty chemical in bio oil, (wish I could remember, excuse the baby brain :stuck_out_tongue: ) and I’ve been a lot poorer, so I’ve stuck to the palmers when it’s on sale and olive oil (yes, from the kitchen) when it’s not.

So far no marks from either pregnancy (I’m 35 weeks along). I have some white stretch marks from adolescence, but I’ve never had a purple one in my life. [name_f]My[/name_f] mum also never got stretch marks in pregnancy. Whilst it probably is more genetics than anything else, I figured it wasn’t worth the risk. I’m much too vain to embrace having ruined skin at the end of my childbearing years, so I’m happy to destroy some clothes, sheets and deal with feeling disgusting for a few months

I use a really nice cream called Derma Mum but I don’t know if its available outside the UK. I moisturised obsessively throughout my first pregnancy with olive oil and Derma Mum and didn’t get a single stretch mark. This time round i’ve been a lot less diligent and only cream myself once or twice a week and still no stretchmarks! So I think it probably does depend on how elastic your skin is, but moisturising does make the growth a lot more comfortable. Look out for anything with vitamin E but without perfume or parabens as your skin can get really sensitive as it stretches.

I imagine genetics and weight gain play more of a roll than a creme ever could, but I’m using l’occitane and it’s amazing, though on the pricey side for me.

I think a cream is a good idea, start using it before you think you need it (ie don’t wait until the last trimester). But I do think it is mostly genetics b/c I only gained 25 lbs with my first pregnancy and I got bad stretch marks (after the 8th month) and I did use stretch mark cream. I have gone back to my pre pregnancy weight after all my kids and I am slim, but I have horrible stretch marks. i have friends that gained way more weight than me, never exercised and never got a stretch mark and wear bikinis. Totally genetics. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom also got them.

@tfzolghadr - I ended up buying Mama [name_u]Mio[/name_u] tummy butter, it smells great and feels good on my skin. Lol about the olive oil and craving pasta. I love pasta always, so using it would make me want it more. I’ve heard people use it quite frequently and that it works to keep their skin soft.
