Strong, independent female names...for a dog?

I am going to be adopting a dog sometime in the near future, and, being name-obsessed, I’m already thinking of dog names. I want to get a female dog. I’m looking at shelters right now, and I’m hoping to get a dog that is part-Pomeranian and part-larger dog because I’m not 100% sold on having a little lapdog. ANYWAY, even if I do end up with a froofy little lapdog, I’m looking at “strong, independent female” names.

The names I’m thinking of now are largely inspired by my favorite fictional female characters. One dog I have my eye on is already named [name_f]Lola[/name_f], which is a cute name, but it was my grandmother’s name and it’s too weird to call my dog that. I was toying around with giving her the middle name of [name_f]Ziva[/name_f] (after [name_f]Ziva[/name_f] [name_m]David[/name_m] from NCIS), and then smooshing the names together to form [name_f]Liv[/name_f] (after [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_m]Benson[/name_m] from [name_m]Law[/name_m] and Order: SVU). I like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] a lot, but I’m still looking for other options. My absolute favorite female character is [name_u]Dana[/name_u] [name_m]Scully[/name_m] from The X-Files, but I’m not crazy about naming my dog [name_u]Dana[/name_u] or [name_m]Scully[/name_m].

Anyone have any other suggestions? What names say “strong female” but also sound good on a dog? (And, yes, I do realize I’m putting way too much thought into this.)

My dog is [name_f]Tess[/name_f], after [name_f]Tess[/name_f] of the d’Urbervilles! I think it’s a great spunky dog name. Here are my suggestions:

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] - after the plucky [name_f]Tess[/name_f] of the d’Urbervilles
[name_f]Juno[/name_f] - queen of the gods, also the title character played by [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] [name_u]Page[/name_u] in the movie
[name_f]Circe[/name_f] - mythological sorceress
Idgie - after the very strong female character in [name_m]Fried[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] Tomatoes (though I think her full name was [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], she was known as her nickname and it’s much better for a dog).
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] - after the [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_m]Crane[/name_m] character [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], Girl of the Streets (not bad for a shelter dog!)

On the contrary, you are putting in the right amount of thought!

[name_f]Every[/name_f] being deserves a good name.

I like Greek sounding warrior/goddess names: [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], [name_f]Palmyra[/name_f], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_f]Vesta[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f]…
