My husband and I are expecting our first baby in [name]July[/name] - a little girl. We are struggling with finding a name. We have a pretty common last name so I’d like to find a name that isn’t super traditional but my husband prefers traditional names. We’ve finally found a few names we both agree on, but are still looking for more. I’d love thoughts on the below names as we continue our hunt! We’ve agreed on the middle name Renna (my grandmother’s name) but I won’t commit to the middle name until we find the first name - I want to make sure they flow.
[name]Jaclyn[/name], [name]Aidyn[/name], and [name]Hayden[/name] are massive nos from me.
[name]Jaclyn[/name] looks extremely downmarket, and 2010s baby. [name]Jacqueline[/name] is fine.
[name]Aidyn[/name] is overdone as a boys trend as is, bringing it to the girls side is even worse, imo. The y doesn’t make it anymore feminine either, it’s more downmarket that [name]Jaclyn[/name] imo. I wouldn’t take a woman named [name]Aidyn[/name] seriously at all.
[name]Hayden[/name] is trendee and ever since I learned the meaning is “Heathen”, I’ve been seriously turned off.
[name]Maebelle[/name] is okay, it’s very 2010s baby though. That just screams “I was born in the early 2010s”, but it’s not a bad name.
[name]Mae[/name] is alright too, a bit plain for my liking. I like [name]May[/name] just fine, but the ae ending seems plainer to me.
[name]Mia[/name] is nice. I prefer longer names usually, but [name]Mia[/name] is a good name itself.
[name]Daphne[/name] is nice too. I always picture a very pretty, and pleasant girl. Usually very adjusted and knows what she’d like to do in the future.
Out of all your names that you have agreed on I like [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] the best, however [name]Mia[/name] is quite popular at the moment so it might not work with your common last name. [name]Daphne[/name] is vintage pretty, though it might not work so well if you have a 2 syllable last name for flow.
I might suggest these (sort of works with the [name]Daphne[/name] vibe):
I love [name]Jaclyn[/name] - pretty & classic. It’s one of those names that never becomes hugely popular & also never becomes dated or associated with a certain generation. [name]Jaclyn[/name] Renna would be beautiful. Blessings!
Daphne - I really like this one a lot, interesting but not too unusual. Phoebe
Maebelle - I like this name a lot! Maelyn, Maribelle
Mae - very pretty, simple and cute. Eve
Mia - I prefer Mae but Mia is okay. Meg
Jaclyn - okay, not a favorite but it’s okay. I prefer Jacqueline.
Aidyn - This is a boys name in my head - Elise
Hayden - meh, sounds like a surname to me. Heidi
how wonderful that your grandma had such a beautiful name. I love Renna!
Keep in mind if you do end up choosing [name]Jaclyn[/name], [name]Aidyn[/name], [name]Maebelle[/name] and [name]Mae[/name] your child will have to deal with everyone spelling her name wrong and be constantly correcting them (being a [name]Cierra[/name] with a “C” instead of an “S” I had to mention that). With [name]Aidyn[/name] being extremely popular with boys for a span of so many years you also have to consider that she will likely have male schoolmates with her name. That said, my favorite is probably [name]Daphne[/name].
What do you think of [name]Valencia[/name] (nn. [name]Via[/name])? It’s unique, but sounds a bit traditional, and as a bonus the nickname [name]Via[/name] might be great for you because you liked [name]Mia[/name].
I also vote for [name]Daphne[/name] or [name]Mia[/name]. I have a 7yr old [name]Mia[/name] myself so I’m a little partial Jaqualine, I prefer this spelling would be pretty too. I do however agree that [name]Mia[/name] has unfortunately become pretty popular so it may not be what you are looking for. Good luck!
I actually think Renna is cooler than any of the names you’ve chosen, and more individual- plus you both agree on it.
Is there a reason you can’t use it as a first name?
I just don’t think it fits with the others as a mn, plus, none of them really took my eye, except for [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Mia[/name]- neither of which sounds right to me with Renna as a mn. [name]Just[/name] my opinion though
[name]Jaclyn[/name] - much prefer [name]Jacqueline[/name]. Looks prettier. Flows well with Renna.
[name]Aidyn[/name] - Nooo! Trendy AND boy, all at once.
[name]Maebelle[/name] - pretty, prefer [name]Maybelle[/name], or just [name]Mabel[/name].
[name]Mae[/name] - again, I prefer [name]May[/name], but most don’t. [name]Love[/name]. Doesn’t work with Renna, though.
[name]Hayden[/name] - see [name]Aidyn[/name]
[name]Mia[/name] - sweet. Not with Renna.
[name]Daphne[/name] - I’m not a huge fan, but I can see the appeal.
I agree that Renna would make a lovely first name. I also like the idea of using [name]Wren[/name]. My favourite from your list is definitely [name]Daphne[/name].
Thanks for all the feedback, please keep it coming.
And thanks to those of you who said you like the name Renna. I’d love to use it as a first name, but my DH won’t agree to it. Not entirely sure why he’s OK with it as a middle name, but not a first name. I keep trying to edge it into the first name category and will continue trying.
I’ve now officially added Maelyn to my list - thanks for the suggestion!
[name]Daphne[/name] is really the only name from you list that I can get behind - I love it, I dislike the rest, plus [name]Daphne[/name] Renna flows really nicely.
[name]Jaclyn[/name] - I like the sound. I think it’s pretty and feminine. It would, though, look much more classic, age better, and while she would still have to spell it, it’d be spelt right more often, if it were spelt [name]Jacqueline[/name]. [name]Jacqueline[/name] Renna would be elegant. I don’t see anything nice added via “[name]Jaclyn[/name]” spelling though?
[name]Aidyn[/name] - Very masculine. [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Amity[/name], [name]Amy[/name]…?
[name]Maebelle[/name] - I love [name]Mae[/name], and I like [name]Belle[/name], but find [name]Maybelle[/name] or [name]Mabel[/name] much easier to look at than Maebel, I’ve never seen it spelt that way before.
[name]Mae[/name] - I love [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Hayden[/name] - I find [name]Hazel[/name] much more attractive, honestly.
[name]Mia[/name] - I’m not into [name]Mia[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] though.
[name]Daphne[/name] - It’s not bad, it’s definitely better than [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Aidyn[/name], and [name]Jaclyn[/name]. It’s not one of my favourite D names for girls though, I think my top three are [name]Delia[/name], [name]Dinah[/name], and [name]Delphine[/name].
I love the idea of [name]Maebelle[/name] for a little girl, but I just can’t imagine it being my name now, at the age of 34. It’s just a little too sweet for a grown woman, though I guess she could certainly go with the nn [name]Mae[/name], which is my favorite name of your list. With so many little boy Aidens, I think that [name]Aidyn[/name] is just too complicated for a girl. I like boys’ names on girls, just not ones that are so popular, I suppose. What about something else with a hard a sound like Aila/[name]Ayla[/name]?
I hope this helps!
