Struggling with picking a name

Hello ladies!

I am 31 weeks currently pregnant with our second girl. Her name is [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] [name_f]Nella[/name_f]. We have tentitively decided on the name rowan for our second. We finally developed a list of 4 names and let my husbands oldest from a previous relationship choose.

Our list was ; [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_f]Elora[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

All quite different! My only pick on there was rowan and the rest were my husband’s. I only really like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but don’t like how trendy it is and I always swore I wouldn’t be a top 10 namer…

We are both on the fence still about [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. I feel it sounds too much like [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and someone brought up to my hubby that it reminded them of rowan Atkinson (Mr. [name_m]Bean[/name_m]) and now that’s all he can picture.

I’m becoming more attached to some other names I had on my list, particularly the ones that have a -[name_u]Lee[/name_u] ending. [name_f]Tenley[/name_f], paisley or rylee (in that order). My hubby vetoed all those though!

So my question, how does the pairing of [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and rowan sound for sisters to you?

[name_m]How[/name_m] do I talk myself out of a name that my husband vetoed (tenley).

It was so easy with our firsts name that I’m really stressing about this!! I still love the name rowan just not sure about it for our girl… if that makes sense!

I’ve never heard [name_f]Tenley[/name_f] before, and I thought you made it up until I saw it was in pink, haha. Maybe that’ll help talk you out of it? Constantly having to explain to people that YES it’s a real name! Lol

I think I like [name_u]Rylee[/name_u] the best, sorry your hubby won’t go for it.

I would definitely not give this girl a undeniable girl name (such as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]) when the first girl is named [name_u]Devyn[/name_u]. Speaking from personal experience, it may cause feelings of resentment.

As much as I hate to say it (because it’s not my personal style) you’ve gotta scour the boy names for this girl, too, if [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] isn’t sticking for you. I think [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] sound fine together.

Good luck!

I agree with manna up above! I’ve only ever known [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] as a boy’s name (I knew a [name_u]Devin[/name_u]), and having [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] would probably give some conflicting moments for your two girls in the future. Of your names up above I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Blake[/name_u] would match best with [name_u]Devyn[/name_u]. I personally love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]! It’s a darling name. Though if you are stuck with [name_f]Tenley[/name_f] (which I’ve never heard of either!), here’s a few names that have your “ley” ending, that are close, while still not being to feminine.

[name_u]Ridley[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_u]Blakely[/name_u]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_f]Taleigh[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! Good luck and congrats!

I actually really love [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Plus [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] sound like they’re meant to be sisters! As for [name_f]Tenley[/name_f], I have heard of it before; the only reason it isn’t my favorite is because I feel like it’s so trendy along with all the other -lee/-ley names. A cute nickname for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is [name_u]Romy[/name_u], so maybe that’ll sway you in it’s favor a bit? I personally don’t think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] sounds too similar to [name_u]Devyn[/name_u]; the only thing they have in common is the -n ending and that they’re two syllables. Otherwise they’re very different!
I agree with the above, it seems as though a unisex name is the best way to go for you. What do you think of [name_u]Landry[/name_u]? I think it’s really really cute with [name_u]Devyn[/name_u].

[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Logan[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Payton[/name_u]
[name_u]Reagan[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_u]Leighton[/name_u]
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u]
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]
[name_u]Monroe[/name_u]
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]
[name_u]Remi[/name_u] ([name_u]Remington[/name_u])
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_u]Lennon[/name_u]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] ([name_f]Aurora[/name_f])
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like any of these? Congratulations on [name_u]Devyn[/name_u]'s little sister!

Normally I would say the names are way too close, but I can honestly say that with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Devyn[/name_u], it sounds sweet, not bad at all. I’m growing fonder of the sibset by the second, truthfully!

Honestly that thought about name resentment didn’t even cross my mind. I was leaning towards a more undeniable girls name as i thought it would sound odd to have two unisex girls names… or like we were wishing for boys or want tomboys (as my mother in law likes to point out quite frequently!).

He actually loves the name rylee and was the one that initially suggested it even before we were pregnant I think, but he has a guy on his crew named [name_u]Riley[/name_u], so he feels it would be very strange to name our daughter that. I also have a close friend who’s oldest daughter whom she doesn’t have custody of or see due to unfortunate circumstances when she was younger who’s name is riley, so I feel it would be insensitive of me to use that name also.

So many things to consider with names… I try to not to base my decision on other peoples reactions or judgements but it’s very difficult!

I suggested blakely to my hubby and he didn’t like it! Which is confusing to me since he was the one who thought of [name_u]Blake[/name_u]…

Men are weird lol.

I honestly like all of those names, some I feel are too trendy, which is the reason I was on the fence about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I really liked it after hubby suggested it and then after found out it’s a top 3 name currently. Like i said to the person above it never occurred to me that there could be name resentment with having a unisex name and a girly name. So good to know more than one person feels that would be an issue!

I think [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] are way too close. If you really loved the name and it had special meaning to you, then maybe OK, but way too close if you have all the names to choose from.

If your husband won’t go for [name_f]Tenley[/name_f], maybe [name_u]Tierney[/name_u], [name_u]Raleigh[/name_u] or [name_u]Ridley[/name_u]?

I love a lot of those names! Some were on my list. Hubby vetoed all lol. He asked if we could have a normal name… like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]… at one point.

[name_u]Landry[/name_u] is super cute! I’ve never heard of that one. I doubt hubby will like it but i’m going to suggest it also. Thanks!

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is still one of my favourite names… I’m not sure why I felt it just didn’t quite fit. Too much pressure i think lol.

It’s also not easy when people ask constantly if we have name picked yet… the joys of the pregnancy questions and pressures!

Sometimes, the opinions of others can be helpful for views you may not have thought of before, but it’s best not to let anyone interfere with what your heart truly wants =]

My opinion is to stick with the same style. Like I said, only because I had an experience with kind of different styles with my sister. Kids tend to always want what the other has, anyways, haha.

[name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and…
[name_u]Adair[/name_u]
[name_f]Afton[/name_f]
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
[name_u]Ellery[/name_u]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] or [name_f]Ismay[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
Jedda
Keltie
[name_f]Kirrily[/name_f]
Merewen/Merewyn
[name_f]Morven[/name_f]
[name_u]Prairie[/name_u]
[name_u]Romy[/name_u] or [name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Shasta[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Trilby[/name_f]
[name_f]Tulsi[/name_f]
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f]
[name_f]Vashti[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_u]Vesper[/name_u] or Hesper

I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], too!

I knew a girl called [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] who left a pretty negative impression of the name for me, but I do think it’s a lovely pairing for siblings, if maybe a little bit similar.
I was trying to work out why [name_u]Blake[/name_u] gave me such good vibes and I honestly think it’s my association of it with [name_m]Quentin[/name_m] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] (who did the illustrations for [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl books)! Either way, I’d agree with some of the other posters about sticking to something slightly more androgynous following [name_u]Devyn[/name_u].

I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] sounds lovely with [name_u]Devyn[/name_u]. They sound similar-ish but are also quite different, and have that slightly boyish sound that matches so one won’t have a super feminine name while the other has a boyish name.

Good choice!

I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], esp with [name_u]Devyn[/name_u]. Might I suggest the similiar [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] also? That way they have different endings but still similiar. Your hubby might go for it bc it’s a bit more ‘girly’ but has the same spirit as [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].

[name_u]Devyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] is a great idea! Otherwise [name_u]Wren[/name_u] would be pretty! All the best!

I like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] with [name_u]Devyn[/name_u], and I know a very sweet little [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] so I am partial to the name. I feel like [name_u]Devyn[/name_u] is sooo Irish that another Irish name would be the best pairing. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] would obviously fit that bill. I always like [name_f]Moira[/name_f] too
