STUCK. Adele or Violet

[name_f]Adele[/name_f]: [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is very much in love with the name [name_f]Adele[/name_f], which I love too. It is a sweet simple name with an old fashion feel & is still wildly underused. I am slightly hesitant for two reasons… It’s a little TOO simple & I fear everyone is going to think we named her after a pop star.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]: I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Simple sweet and old fashion… But with a little more edge to it. Maybe it’s the “V”? I also love the association of flowers/gardening. All of the women on both sides of our family love to garden. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is not too keen on this name. But had not taken it off the table… or I should say he did, but he let me put it back on

Which do you prefer, and why?

[name_m]Both[/name_m] names are lovely so it depends on the mn and surname.

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] is sweet and pretty and has a lovely literary connection (Mr [name_m]Rochester[/name_m]'s ward in [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f]). [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a vintage flower name with a little sass. If your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], then I would go with [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. Is [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] a combo option or have you decided to use another name in the middle spot?

I agree with [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is so pretty and sweet, and I honestly don’t think most people would think you named your daughter after a pop star.

I personally prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f] because the bully at my high school was named [name_f]Adele[/name_f] so that’s given the name a bad association for me. I have [name_f]Violet[/name_f] on my list and I love [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]'s suggestion of using [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as a first and middle name combination.

I like both, though I prefer [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] over [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Perhaps [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Violetta[/name_f] or [name_f]Adela[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]?

If you think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is a little too simple, perhaps [name_f]Adela[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Adele[/name_f]? You could also be more gutsy with your middle name choice with a more simple first name:

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Scotia[/name_f]

[name_f]Adele[/name_f]! It’s simple yet stylish and classy. It’s on my long list:) [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] was a nice suggestion. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] isn’t my cup of tea… Good luck:)

I personally would think of the singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] at first. But overtime, your baby would claim the name as her own and I wouldn’t associate the name with the singer as much anymore.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are great, but I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] better

I agree with pretty much everything [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] said–it sounds like the two of you agree more on [name_f]Adele[/name_f], which I also think is the slightly better name. I love how it manages to be both sweet and elegant at once, and while people will certainly think of the pop star, over time your daughter will become their first association when they hear the name. [name_f]Violet[/name_f], on the other hand, has a vaguely catty vibe to it that makes me like it a little less.

I also agree that [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a great combo.

For me, I associate [name_f]Adele[/name_f] with the pop star, as she was the first person I really knew with the name. I really love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but if your husband doesn’t like it, then go with [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is lovely despite the association. She isn’t one of those crazy pop artists, and her music is beautiful. But I would keep both on the list and name her when you meet her. If [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is too simple, how about [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], or [name_f]Adelina[/name_f]?

I love the name [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. I do not think that the pop star association is really a problem. This is a name with a lot of history on its own, so it’s not like naming your daughter [name_f]Pink[/name_f] or Feist.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is really pretty as well. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]? They are lovely together.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are nice names so I think it depends largely on the mn and surname.

If your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] I’d go with [name_f]Adele[/name_f] as you both like it.

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] is a lovely choice, elegant and underused. I also like [name_f]Adela[/name_f] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].

I used to like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] a lot but recently I’ve started finding it quite harsh sounding and it’s really starting to remind me of Violent/Violence!

Is [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] an option for you? [name_f]Adela[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be lovely too.

I addddddore [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! I’m not into [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. I think “addy” names ([name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], Etc) are just overdone and have lost their shine for me. But [name_f]Violet[/name_f], ohhhh how I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

I addddddore [name_f]Violet[/name_f]! I’m not into [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. I think “addy” names ([name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], Etc) are just overdone and have lost their shine for me. But [name_f]Violet[/name_f], ohhhh how I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

On the boards recently the name [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] came up and while some thought this generation would not know the connection to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball others did but no one seemed to think that using [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] was a no no and similarly with [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is fresh and sweet and nice and short and pity help anyone if I had a child named [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and they tried to use the nn of [name_f]Addie[/name_f], so I think we will discount that nn and just assume that people for once can stick with the child’s given name which is lovely. I know of a 6 year old [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] and I that is beautiful too.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] has lovely images for me but occasionally the word violent comes to mind which is a nuisance but overall [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a standout name. We had an Aunt Violie who was just lovely.

So my choice would be [name_f]Adele[/name_f].

rollo

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]… sound great

I just love the name [name_f]Adele[/name_f], it’s so sweet yet doesn’t sound weak. It’s on my own personal list and I would love to use it one day.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is becoming more and more popular but I’m not sure how I feel about it. I want to like it but can’t remove the ‘violent’ connotation from my mind.

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorite is [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is pretty and sweet. I do not care for [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. In all honesty I cannot read or see [name_f]Violet[/name_f] without hearing and seeing violent. I’m sorry.

I prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f]…but I’m no help because I can’t articulate why!

I know two [name_f]Adele[/name_f]'s one is my sister the other is a friends sister even though they are both 13 they get like the singer comments and my sister hates the nicknames [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. On the plus side people have no trouble with her name and she’s the first [name_f]Adele[/name_f] most people have ever met. I would choose [name_f]Adele[/name_f] because I really dislike [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

Looks like you all are leaning [name_f]Adele[/name_f] too

We are currently thinking [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_u]Ellison[/name_u]. [name_u]Ellison[/name_u] is the name of a special place for the two of us. And I think the two sound nice together.

So maybe I need to start to let go of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] after all. sigh Thank you for all your thoughts!
