Stuck between two names

We are stuck between two names for our daughter, due in [name_u]June[/name_u].

[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are both family names, not keen on the name [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]

Last name starts with a S. We do not want the initials of MRS, etc.

Which do you think is better?

I vote for [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] – it’s sweet and charming!

They’re both beautiful combos, I totally get why this is a tough choice. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] gets my vote.

You could narrow between [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] based on which name has a nicname you prefer or which name best matches with other favourites?

I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] best – strong but sweet and gives you fun nickname options (Mattie, [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], [name_f]Milly[/name_f], [name_f]Milla[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Mally[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], Mims, Tilda-May etc)
I guess it depends whether you want a name that’s familiar (and popular in some places), [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is great! [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is lovely too – more unique, if that concerns you

i like both of them a lot, but i prefer zelda rose ! zelda is just such an enchanting name, while matilda is very common around me and has lost a bit of its sparkle. the alliteration of matilda mary is very cute though. if zelda mary was an option i would definitely vote for that - i think the vibes of the two names compliment each other perfectly, slightly better than zelda and rose.

Very tough choice! I think I’m leaning towards [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but I keep flip flopping. I agree with @rosepip that [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would definitely get my vote.

I like both - it depends too on how many syllables in your last name. If one syllable, I think either [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. If two or more syllables, then [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] works.

I like the nn option [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] (or Tilda) for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - who is giving strong frontier woman vibes.

[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is giving me a more modern day go-getter (even with the 1920s connection).

I’m leaning towards [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]!

Both are beautiful :sparkles:

However my favourite is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is a lovely name she’s sweet, wholesome, timeless, has great literacy associations and fun nicknames. I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a middle name for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] the alliteration is beyond adorable and has sweet cottagecore imagery attached.
