Sorry for the complicated post in advance, but I’ve been having lots of trouble coming up with a name for my little boy, due Dec 31. Boys names don’t seem to come as easy as girls names do for me, so I could use some help!
I’m looking for name that is quirky, fresh, and offbeat yet somewhat timeless/distantly familiar.
Another thing is that I am Jewish, and would ideally like the baby’s name to somewhat allude to that without being majorly obvious or too traditional (although I am not making it a requirement that the baby’s name be totally biblical or anything like that).
I really like name combinations where the first name is two syllables, and the middle name is three syllables (although again, not a requirement).
Also, the baby’s last name will be ‘[name_f]Moon[/name_f]’, so it needs to mesh well with that.
I like the following names, but I also fear that the names are too common or traditional for my taste. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help and insight will be super appreciated!!
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] - (a personal favorite, as the meaning ‘laughter’ strongly reminds me of him because I laughed with joy when I found out that I was pregnant)
Elio immediately comes to mind. It’s not Jewish, but [name_m]Elio[/name_m] is the name of a Jewish character in a movie. I definitely think of it as “quirky, fresh, and offbeat” and familiar with [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]!
I like [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], but I get a really traditional feel out of it, so I am unsure. And I also love [name_u]Asher[/name_u], but it is becoming super mainstream these days, so I am trying to avoid that. I’ve never heard of [name_m]Elio[/name_m] before, and I think [name_u]Tate[/name_u] is super cute. Those may be something to consider!
Isaac sounds like a wonderful choice for you!
I also love most of the names on your list (especially [name_m]Simon[/name_m]). However, if popularity is a concern, [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] and [name_m]Ansel[/name_m] seem the most offbeat.
Some other suggestions (some possibly being too popular and many probably not your style):
[name_u]Levi[/name_u]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_u]Amos[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_u]Abiah[/name_u]
[name_m]Tobiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Adlai[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Abram[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Elam[/name_m]
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u]
[name_m]Ishvi[/name_m]
[name_m]Ithai[/name_m]
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], followed by [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. I absolutely ADORE both, but I’m especially fond of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]’s meaning too. [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] is such a great name too. I think any would be fantastic. I actually think Ezra Moon sounds especially cool, but Moon is just such a cool last name!
I second [name_u]Asher[/name_u], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] and [name_m]Elio[/name_m]. I love all three of these and they target some of your criteria. Have you seen the movie Call Me By Your Name? Timothée Chalamet plays [name_m]Elio[/name_m] Perlman in that - it’s a brilliant film! Some other ideas (that don’t necessarily target all of your criteria but you may like:
I love [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] ?
How about [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_f]Moon[/name_f]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m] is soooo handsome
My favorite names from your list are [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] (though [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_f]Moon[/name_f] isn’t my fav sound together). So many great suggestions from other commenters, but here’s a couple more
First name (2 syllables):
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_u]Avi[/name_u]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Eben[/name_m]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_m]Jared[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_m]Omri[/name_m]
Middle name (3 syllables):
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
Isaac sounds like it would be a great choice for you! Since you like a 2 then 3 syllable pattern, I think [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would be gorgeous! Here’s some other ideas for a middle:
I am particularly drawn to the names [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], [name_m]Herschel[/name_m], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] with the LN [name_f]Moon[/name_f]. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is another favorite of mine, but the repeated M and N sounds are not ideal, in my opinion.
If I had to pick one out of all these lovely names, it would be [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], because now it has a personal touch and a small piece of family history. When little [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] asks how he got his name, you’ll share a lovely moment with him .
Herschel is my runner up, we used it as a middle name for one of our boys, and would love to hear it as the handsome, distinctive first name it is!
