Hi Berries!
I posted this a while ago but didn’t get many responses. We’re really struggling on our boy’s name! We’ve realized that though we are white, my wife doesn’t like typical Anglo-Saxon British names (and of course, those are names I’m drawn to, plus Jewish names). She likes strong multi-cultural names, and I like softer names.
Names she likes: Ishmael, Amar, Isaiah
Names I like: Sebastian, Solomon, Asher, Benjamin, Caspian, Theodore, Jonah
Names we can agree to but don’t adore: Jay (honor), Ari, Booker, Apollo, Griffin
Current forerunner: Ulysses
We’d use Odie as a nn (a nod to Odysseus). Current thought for a middle: Ulysses David (honor).
Any other thoughts on names that might fit our style incompatibility? Or on Ulysses? Or on middles for Ulysses?
I really love [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u] nn [name_u]Odie[/name_u]! That’s such a striking name. Bold and divine. Loving that pair, and really loving that sweet nickname! Smashing!
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is a very cool name - distinct and interesting. Somehow, I have met one - he ran a restaurant my dad used to like and he could carry it off. [name_u]Odie[/name_u] grounds it too.
ulysses david nn odie is super cool! very strong, timeless and unique.
i think there could be overlap between names you might like, especially if you’re pulling a jewish side. her listed names are hebrew and arabic, i think you could find something in common?
and the other foot seems to be over in greece, so maybe looking more into that?
ok, some ideas:
uriah
ishai, yishai / however you want to spell that
artemis
peregrine nn ari??
bastien / baz
zacarias
timotheus
aeneas
Based on [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], and [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] in your list and [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] in your wife’s, I think that Biblical names may give good results!
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u] is a good name, and even better because it is an honor name! [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] isn’t common, but definitely familiar because of people like [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] S. [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. It is a strong, timeless, and unique name! I think that [name_u]Odie[/name_u] is a sweet nickname, and that you won’t have any pronunciation issues with [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] and [name_u]Odie[/name_u].
Firstly I think you need to be careful when using names that are not from your culture. I think some of these choices could come across as cultural appropriation for a white Anglo-Saxon British family to use. I wouldn’t use [name_m]Ishmael[/name_m], [name_u]Amar[/name_u] or [name_m]Booker[/name_m].
However the majority of your list are totally usable for you guys especially with Hebrew names being very popular. I think [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m] could be a great compromise as your partner loves him but also works with your Hebrew naming style. [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is a great front runner as well he’s brave works with your braver naming style and feels distinguished. I think [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u] sounds gorgeous a very strong combination. A brilliant front runner!
You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
I really like [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]! I’d also recommend [name_m]Baltazar[/name_m] and [name_m]Shadrach[/name_m] be as a couple other fascinating and fun names.
