I sort of like the name [name]Temperance[/name], but I’m not crazy about it.
I am, however, crazy about Tempe. I think it’s adorable. My question is: is it substantial enough as a given name?

Tempe could work as a place name I guess. But I’ve never spent any time there so I don’t know if it’s a place worthy of naming a child after.
I don’t really like the sound- I hear ‘temper’ but [name]Violet[/name] is really close to violent & that works so why not?
I’m not sure I"d like Tempe as anything but a nn. If you like word names maybe there is some other word that starts [name]Temp[/name] you you like. I can only think of Temperature and [name]Tempest[/name] right now - both of which I’d find odd - but I’m sure there are more options. If only I had an old fashioned dictionary lying around.
I think it can work on its own, although I prefer [name]Temperance[/name] personally. There’s a name story at Appellation Mountain you may be interested in:

I knew a girl named [name]Temple[/name] that was Tempe. But, I guess if you prefer Tempe; it’s really not any different from [name]Kate[/name] as a formal name instead of [name]Katherine[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Kathryn[/name].
Thank you for the replies. I think I’d probably just use [name]Temperance[/name] as a whole name
@holbs thanks for the link! It was an interesting little naming story
I don’t think it’s substantial enough.
I was thinking about Appellation Mountain as well! There was another post later on about the parents having a third daughter named [name]Juno[/name]. I think that [name]Helena[/name], Tempe, and [name]Juno[/name] is an absolutely awesome set of sisters.
I like Tempe and think that it’s just substantial enough to work on its own. I also like [name]Temperance[/name].
Definitely not, sorry.
I get [name]Temp[/name] - as in temporary teacher/substitute etc
Temper and [name]Templeton[/name] the bad rat in [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name].
