Substitutions for Beckett

Hello Berries,

I am back and due in [name]January[/name] this time. You all were so helpful in naming my daughter [name]Juniper[/name] so I hope you can help this time too!
My dilemma is the front runner name that I adore, [name]Beckett[/name], has been used by a friend a few months ago and sadly it has to be off our list. I really think I went through a grieving process over ths and of course my sisters thought I was crazy, lol. Now that we’re expecting again I’m looking for a name to love just as much. The past few weeks I’ve been liking [name]Atticus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] but just don’t know if it goes with my other kids’ names and if it’s okay with our ln. There are a few others in my sig as well that I like but don’t love…yet anyway. I liked [name]August[/name] as well but we call [name]Juniper[/name] ‘[name]June[/name]’ sometimes so thats out.
Looking for similar style as my other kids’ names (esp boys)…middle name will be [name]David[/name] and last name sounds like Castle.

I really love [name]Atticus[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name]! I think it goes perfectly with [name]Conrad[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], and [name]Juniper[/name].

My only thought for a suggestion, actually, was [name]Everett[/name]. I absolutely adore it, and I think it’s perfect with your children. [name]How[/name] big of a consideration is that?

What about [name]Augustin[/name], nn [name]Gus[/name]? That takes away the [name]June[/name] & [name]August[/name] connection. I do like [name]Atticus[/name] a lot though with your other childrens’ names.

What about [name]Bennett[/name]? I knew a boy with that name once and thought it was pretty cool

Thanks for the repiles so far!

[name]Bennett[/name] is good but I feel like he would be another [name]Ben[/name]…which would be okay…I like the name-but I know many. I’ll have to try out [name]Augustin[/name]…first reaction is it feels longer than it needs to be and it might be hard for the average person to know which syllable to stress.

Dh seems to be on bord with [name]Atticus[/name]…would not want him to be called [name]Attie[/name] though. Can I love it as much as [name]Beckett[/name]!?

Oh and also [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Everett[/name]…only thing holding me back is popularity…what are your thoughts? [name]Do[/name] you see it rising further up?
Which do you prefer based on sound alone:
[name]Atticus[/name] Castle
[name]Everett[/name] Castle

Based on sound alone, I prefer [name]Everett[/name]. I really love [name]Atticus[/name], too, but [name]Atticus[/name] “Castle” has the redundant hard “C” sounds, which [name]Everett[/name] doesn’t. They both look a bit “T” heavy with the Castle spelling, but since that’s actually not your LN, maybe that’s not a problem. Besides, I don’t really pronounce the “T” in “castle” anyway.

Erm, as far as popularity goes… it’s not a huge concern for me. Then again, popularity in general isn’t that important to me. I loved being an [name]Ashley[/name], and most of my kids (if not all) will likely be adopted, so I imagine they might like to feel like they fit in by having a more mainstream name? I don’t know if that’s true or not, haha, just something I have been thinking as I look at names. But [name]Everett[/name]'s still out of the top 250, which is actually impressive for me, haha, most of my favorites are either in the top 150 or have a variant (or more) that is. I know [name]Everett[/name] climbed a little in the past year–30 spots, I just checked. It is on the upswing, but I can’t really see that [name]Everett[/name] will have the same mass appeal that [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Michael[/name], or [name]Christopher[/name] have, iykwim. It’s been in the top 100 before, but I’m not sure it will now. And I think it’s fairly safe to say that if it does, it’ll be at least five years from now, if not ten. I think it might make a few small jumps and then settle out. Then again, I could be wrong. But I hope not. :frowning:

You make good points. For some reason i thought [name]Everett[/name] ranked higher so I’m happy with that. You’re right about our last name…the t is silent. Choosing names is so hard! ESP when trying to outshine another that I loved.

My first thought was [name]Rafferty[/name] nn [name]Rafe[/name].

I think [name]Atticus[/name] would work great with your sibset

Either [name]Atticus[/name] or [name]Everett[/name] would work well with your other children imo too.

[name]Do[/name] you care about the meaning of the name? [name]Conrad[/name] & [name]Nolan[/name] have nice, strong meanings. [name]Juniper[/name] is a good nature name. [name]Everett[/name] means “boar’s head” according to behindthename.com although NB says it is “strong as a wild boar”. Personally I wouldn’t want my child associated with a wild pig -even though the name itself is nice.

[name]Atticus[/name] has the rather bland meaning of “from Athens”. [name]Augustin[/name] has a better meaning; “great or venerable” but you likely would have pronunciation issues with that name, unless you just always introduced your son as “[name]Gus[/name]”.

If you like the nn [name]Gus[/name], what about [name]Angus[/name] (one strength)?

Some names with a similar feel that come to mind…

[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Boston[/name]
[name]Bridger[/name]
[name]Easton[/name]
[name]Brenner[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Bastien[/name]
[name]Britton[/name]
[name]Corbett[/name]
[name]Corbin[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Sutton[/name]
[name]Foster[/name]
Truett
[name]Calder[/name]
[name]Branson[/name]
[name]Brandt[/name]
[name]Decker[/name]
[name]Thatcher[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Everett[/name], it is one of my faves right now. It also goes well with the other siblings’ names.
Another name I love is [name]Bennett[/name] (my dad’s middle name)-kind of sounds like [name]Beckett[/name]?
I love the name [name]August[/name], but unless you call [name]Juniper[/name] [name]June[/name] all of the time, I don’t see an issue with the month names.
What about [name]Emmett[/name]?

[name]Rafferty[/name]…interesting I have never ever once considered this. I kind of like it…have to say it a few times mores.

Meaning is somewhat important and I do agree that ‘from Athens’ is not very exciting. All I think of with angus is is angus beef…we live in the Midwest so I think a lot of people would have the same association.

I do like [name]Atlas[/name]…does [name]Atlas[/name] Castle sound/look okay?

Thanks! I do like [name]Bennett[/name] as well but dh as employee named [name]Ben[/name] and I don’t think he’d go for it because of that. There’s an [name]Emmett[/name] in the family otherwise that would’ve been a good option as well.
