Suggest some Nicknames for Ephraim

Callout for ideas on a nn for [name]Ephraim[/name]!

Huh. I’ve never heard [name]Ephraim[/name] pronounced anyway except for Eff-rum before. I’m not really sure what nn’s would work with that pronunciation. I really [name]Rem[/name] or [name]Remy[/name] for [name]Ephraim[/name], but that sound isn’t really there in Ee-free-yem. I really can’t think of any for it, sorry.

I love [name]Ephraim[/name]! I’m definitely familiar with the EE-free-yum pronunciation, I like both. I love their very Biblical/Hebrew name choices! My first thought (after [name]Remy[/name], after I heard their pronunciation of [name]Ephraim[/name]) was [name]Free[/name]. It’s somewhat of a GP for me, but I think [name]Ephraim[/name] nn [name]Free[/name] is adorable. I can’t really think of anything else with their pronunciation, besides those two.

Good luck to them!

[name]Ephraim[/name] is such a great, bold Biblical name I can’t imagine why they would want to use a nickname for it. I like [name]Ash[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Free[/name], though.

I’ve heard [name]Ephriam[/name] as either:

eff-rum, but I think this is an Anglicization/abbreviation thing happening.
or
Eff-[name]RYE[/name]-eem

Never with a free in it? I’ve heard Eff-rye-eem in Hebrew settings mainly, but that could be my Ashkenazi accent maybe?

Ri, Riam ([name]Rye[/name]-eem) would be my picks, or Fry I guess but that’s kinda Futurama.

Another vote for [name]Free[/name]! [name]Love[/name] that the quirky [name]Ephraim[/name] will be used, and this modern word-nn for such an Old World monicker is brilliant.

Poor little [name]Ephraim[/name] will be forever correcting people on his parents’ preferred pronunciation of his name. “[name]Effy[/name]” would be a cool NN though. I like [name]Remmy[/name]/[name]Remmie[/name], too.

Honestly, it depends on where he is. No one would bat an eye if someone within my circle used [name]Ephraim[/name] “EE-free-yum”–that’s how everyone says it. I was honestly flabbergasted when I joined name forums and heard everyone saying it EFF-rum.

i like [name]Remy[/name] and Ephy/[name]Effy[/name]

[name]Free[/name] was my first thought too-- great nn!

I’m from Indianapolis and everyone I know pronounces it Eff-rum. It’s one of our top contenders for a boy, so it’ll be interesting if we use it and run into pronunciation problems. I honestly had no clue there was a second (and possibly third) pronunciation.

[name]Rahm[/name] works, [name]Ram[/name], or Rahmie could work too!

I think I’d call him “E”

I’ve heard it pronounced Eff-rum and EE-frum before.

Coming from my Jewish religious background, the name ephraim is somewhat mainstream. The hebrew pronunciation is ef-rye-yim. The nicknames that i know of for this name are:

[name]Effy[/name]
[name]Rami[/name]
Efri

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

With that pronunciation I like [name]Free[/name] or Iam (pronounced EE-yem) as nicknames.

Never heard of [name]Ephraim[/name] or [name]Ephriam[/name] before. My first thought on prn. was actually eh-FRAME. Oh well.

I’d nn him as [name]Effy[/name].
