hello nameberries!
I am looking for suggestions to go with my [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name] (I had fallen in love with [name]Sylvia[/name], but my husband has just mentioned he thinks “old lady” every time he hears it! Argh! 10 weeks to go and NOW he complains!). I’m wondering is another vowel name might be the way to go… help please! The fog of tiredness is setting in and I’m worried I’ll have a baby with no name before I know it! Thank you!
(I like longer names with nickname potential! Middle names are already chosen: [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name], as they are my mother-in-law and mother’s middle names!) So… _______________ [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]!
[name]Eloise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Emma[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Ember[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Elise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Elle[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Emily[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Ellie[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Elena[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Erin[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Esther[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Esme[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Odette[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
Onalee [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Orianna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Uma[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
[name]Una[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]
There are some ideas. I hope it helps! But I think [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name] would fit best with your pair or [name]Emily[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name] or along the lines of being in similar popularity to [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]. But my girls names start with vowels too & I’m pregnant with my 3rd girl & names are getting harder to pick! Good luck.
Aw, that’s too bad he feels that way!
Anyway, from the list made by the previous poster I like:
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one not only because [name]Eleanor[/name] is one of my favorite names of all time, but also because I think it flows nicely. Also, [name]Eleanor[/name] is long-ish like [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name], has a wealth of cute nicknames ([name]Ella[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], etc.), and is just (in my opinion) an absolute classic like [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]. And, of course, she begins with a vowel just like your other girls.
I also like [name]Erin[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name], but I don’t know if it would bother you if your girls names were long, long, and then suddenly short. So, I like it, but it’s really up to you.
Side note I thought worth mentioning: [name]Emily[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is (was?) the name of the main girl in [name]Clifford[/name] the Big [name]Red[/name] Dog tv show. Also, [name]Emily[/name] was the #1 name for over a decade. While I like [name]Emily[/name] (can’t use it because it’s already in the family), I don’t know if popularity is a factor for you.
[name]Abigail[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] and…
I think the suggestion of [name]Eleanor[/name] is perfect! Thats my #1 pick for you.
Others ideas:
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
And some names that don’t start with vowels but popped into my head to go with [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]: [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]
With [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name], I like:
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
I would consider the nn too. I really like [name]Elodie[/name] as a sister to [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name], but I’m not sure I like [name]Abby[/name], [name]Issy[/name] and [name]Ella[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] because it sounds too much like the end of [name]Isabel[/name]. Same with [name]Eleanor[/name] - if you like [name]Eleanor[/name], maybe use [name]Nora[/name] as the nn?
I really like [name]Olivia[/name] - such a beautiful name and fits right in with [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]. [name]Abby[/name], [name]Issy[/name] and [name]Livvy[/name]?
I like [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name] best with [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]. [name]Eloise[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] are lovely but the repeated [name]El[/name] sounds make it difficult to say. I have a cousin named [name]Emily[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and I’ve always liked the combo, but I agree with pp about popularity.
Other suggestions:
[name]Eudora[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Eugenie[/name]
[name]Ethel[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Oriel[/name]
[name]Ursula[/name]
Another idea is to tie the names together with the -l ending instead of vowel beginning. [name]How[/name] about:
[name]Ariel[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Mariel[/name]
[name]Gretel[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Liesl[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Nouvel[/name]
[name]Racquel[/name]
[name]Nell[/name]
Forgot to mention:
I’m pretty sure [name]Edith[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name] ( nn [name]Edie[/name]) hasn’t been mentioned yet, but I think that pairing sounds adorable!
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Olwen[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Ursula[/name]
[name]Unity[/name]
[name]Una[/name]
[name]Hi[/name] everyone,
Sorry about the delay, I’ve been a bit unwell. 9 weeks to go! Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestions!
Lots of people thought eleanor would be perfect - I agree with all you said about that lovely name, but it is my little sister’s name! I have always loved it (and my darling sister), but not sure I should use it with my own little one, when it is so close in my family… (although I know a lady who called her son [name]Michael[/name], and has a brother [name]Michael[/name])
Mrs_Smith3 - I loved [name]Emily[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Esther[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name] from your list! (Best wishes from name-hunting for your third girl!)
garnetgirl14 - I [name]LOVE[/name] the nickname [name]Edie[/name], just can’t like [name]Edith[/name]! And I just love using longer names with nicknames… but [name]Edie[/name] is on the list because I love it so much!
Minimom - [name]Olive[/name] I love, but I have already used it for [name]Abigail[/name]'s middle name! (Whoops, should always remember not to use up all the name you love on your first child, in case you have more of the same gender!!!)
gwensmom - [name]Elodie[/name] is beautiful! I only ever heard of it the first time on this website, but it has been lurking in my subconscious ever since! It’s on the list!
katybug - I also love [name]Evelyn[/name], also like [name]Emilia[/name] from your list. With the ‘l’ ending suggestions, I liked [name]Mabel[/name] and [name]Gretel[/name]!
tkmama - I have added [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Olwen[/name] to my list!
So the list is:
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]
[name]Edie[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Olwen[/name]
Questions - Would [name]Etta[/name] be a good nickname for [name]Esther[/name]? The only nickname i can think of would be [name]Essy[/name], which sounds too much like “[name]Issy[/name]”…
Any longer name which could have the nickname “[name]Edie[/name]”?
Thanks for your help, nameberries! Much appreciated!
[name]Edwina[/name] could be shorten [name]Eddie[/name].
I like [name]Ernestine[/name] ([name]Ernie[/name] or Teen), [name]Olivia[/name] ([name]Liv[/name]) and Ulani (Larni).
Random thoughts on [name]Sylvia[/name]:- [name]How[/name] about Sylvenia? A bit like the country Slovenia.
Sylvena or Silvenna
[name]Silva[/name], [name]Sylva[/name] or Sliver
[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Elle[/name]-[name]Sylvia[/name]
Eusylvia or Eusilvia
Oxylvia
Occilia
Run out of ideas
[name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Edie[/name]!
[name]Edwina[/name] works, but I much prefer [name]Eden[/name] or [name]Elodie[/name] as a full name for [name]Edie[/name].
Hey! [name]Jeanne[/name] is my middle name, too. [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name] is a nice combo for middle names.
Off your list, [name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] really strike my fancy - so does [name]Olivia[/name], but [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is way more than even I like together in terms of syllables and sounds melding together.
I don’t think [name]Evangeline[/name] works too terribly well int he combo, either. The noticeable G sound in [name]Evangeline[/name] makes it kind of clash with [name]Jeanne[/name], even though [name]Elizabeth[/name] is separating them.
The other names on the the list are lovely, too - especially [name]Olwen[/name], but I don’t think [name]Olwen[/name] goes with [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name] in terms of style.
[name]Elaina[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeane[/name] nn [name]Lainy[/name], [name]Lainie[/name], [name]Elle[/name], [name]Ellie[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeane[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeane[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeane[/name] nn [name]Liv[/name]
Have you considered using [name]Elizabeth[/name] as the first name?
[name]Elodie[/name] nn [name]Edie[/name] is lovely.
Also, what about using [name]Elisabeth[/name] as the first name? [name]Elsie[/name] is my favourite nickname. [name]Emmeline[/name] is very pretty with your girls too.
I had not thought of [name]Edie[/name] as a nn for [name]Elodie[/name]–I’m changing my vote from [name]Evelyn[/name] to [name]Elodie[/name], nn [name]Edie[/name]! You love both the full name and the nn, so I think it’s a perfect fit. Best wishes!
I know it is not a vowel name but I mentioned that you liked the name of [name]Sylvia[/name] at work and one of the staffers said how about [name]Savannah[/name]?
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
Everleigh
[name]Elania[/name]
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Elia[/name]
[name]Elin[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Eila[/name]
[name]Elara[/name]
[name]Elora[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Odette[/name]
Oleander
[name]Orchid[/name]
I love all your names so far I may be a little bit partial because I have 3 children with vowel names. So here are some of the names I liked.
[name]Everly[/name]-[name]Ever[/name]
[name]Emerson[/name]-[name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Ellison[/name]-[name]Elli[/name]
[name]Ember[/name]-[name]Em[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]-[name]Edie[/name]
[name]Evyn[/name]-Ev
[name]Emery[/name]-[name]Em[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]-[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]-[name]Elle[/name]
Wow! Thanks everyone for all your thoughtful comments and name suggestions! I appreciate all your help so much!
abigail - I’ve added [name]Elaina[/name] to my list - it’s beautiful! I had wanted to use [name]Elizabeth[/name] for my second daughter, but my husband wasn’t convinced, and we went with [name]Isabel[/name] (same meaning, french version). To me, the sounds in [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name] are too similar, so I think I’m happier now with it as a middle name (which is also nice, as it is my mother-in-law’s middle name).
flick- I agree! when I was looking at my list again, I thought [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] was just too similiar to be a good pairing, and now you point it out, I think the same with [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Jeanne[/name]! (It’s nice to have people point these things out BEFORE you actually name the child, hey!!!) And although I think [name]Olwen[/name] is beautiful (and isn’t a name I’d ever heard of before I joined nameberry!) I agree, it doesn’t fit the style of names I have (if I truly loved it, I would not mind a different fit, but I don’t think it is The One!)
thesmithsonz - I love [name]Elsa[/name], it’s on the list now! Not sure of [name]Savannah[/name], it’s pretty but doesn’t feel right with my names.
brighteyes - love [name]Elora[/name]! (bit like [name]Eleanor[/name], but different!)
garnetgirl- oh wow! I had not thought [name]Edie[/name] could be a nickname for [name]Elodie[/name]! [name]How[/name] lovely! I agree with katybug - unites a new (for me) name I love, and a nickname I love too! ooh, exciting!
[name]Abigail[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] and [name]Elodie[/name] ([name]Abi[/name], [name]Issy[/name] and [name]Edie[/name]) … hmmm, sounding good!
It’s nice to have a beautiful list of names!
[name]Emily[/name] ([name]Em[/name])
[name]Emilia[/name] ([name]Em[/name])
[name]Evelyn[/name] ([name]Evie[/name])
[name]Esther[/name] ([name]Etta[/name])
[name]Elodie[/name] ([name]Edie[/name])
[name]Elora[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name])
[name]Elsa[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name])
[name]Elaina[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name])
Yay, a new list.
So off this list - [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Emilia[/name] and [name]Elaina[/name].
I’m kind of biased on [name]Elaina[/name], I have a little cousin with this name. (and by little, I mean she’s 16, haha) I kind of prefer the [name]Elena[/name] spelling, it seems softer, but I think [name]Elaina[/name] works better in your sibset since all the names would have an I in them.
[name]Elodie[/name] is definitely my favorite here. I think [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Isabel[/name] and [name]Elodie[/name] make a fabulous sibset. They “match”, but not in a bed way.
