We are expecting our second and while we still don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, I’m am already trying to narrow down names. My three favorite girl names for the past several years are: [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], and [name]Nora[/name]. Unfortunately, our last name starts with Ruh- so [name]Nora[/name] Ruh- sounds too repetitive and weird. Any ideas for names with the same feel as [name]Nora[/name]? Also, my sister-in-law has recently claimed [name]Olivia[/name], though she is not even pregnant. And it was a name she knows we were considering before we found out our son was a boy. Would it be bad if we used it? What is the etiquette for claiming names? I always felt like I had no right to “claim” a name until I was actually pregnant with a child that I knew to be that gender. And I still love [name]Charlotte[/name], but fear it is getting too popular. Anyway, suggestions would be really appreciated. Her older brother is [name]Owen[/name] [name]Charles[/name], so we would like a name that fits with his style, as well.
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name]
[name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Nola[/name] is a variation I’ve heard recently for [name]Nora[/name] that sounds nice. [name]Colette[/name] could be a less popular substitute for [name]Charlotte[/name]. Also, I am not much for claiming names either, although, I know several people who have done that and ended up naming their babies those names. [name]May[/name] be best to stay away from it if you have other options, especially since it’s family!
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
While I agree that your sister-in-law has no right claiming a name when she’s not pregnant, I don’t think you should name your daughter [name]Olivia[/name] anyway, as I think with [name]Owen[/name] it’s a little matchy.
