suggestions, please!

I am due with a baby girl in a few weeks. Here are some names we like, but we are open to suggestions of new names…and would like to expand our thinking to other similar names. I seem to like classic, with a small twist…and I am drawn to names that include a long vowel…but I am definitely not limited to those names…

First names:
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] (I say eh-vee…would others say ee-vee)
[name]Ava[/name] (I know it’s popular, so help me with something similar–short, pretty, classy)
[name]Laine[/name]

Middle names (We want it to be a variation of one of these family names):
[name]Lee[/name]–we like [name]Lia[/name], [name]Ashlee[/name], others???
[name]Carol[/name]–we like [name]Cara[/name], Carington, (can’t use [name]Caroline[/name]), [name]Carolyn[/name], others???
[name]Mary[/name]–variations??
[name]Elaine[/name]–[name]Laine[/name] (if not used for a first name)

Thanks for your help!!

First names:
[name]Delaney[/name]- I’m not a particular fan of this one. I do like Dela (possibly a nickname for [name]Adela[/name]), [name]Lucia[/name], and [name]Helena[/name] (Heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh).
[name]Evie[/name]- This seems a bit short and nicknamey. I would only use this as something to call an [name]Evelyn[/name], otherwise I would leave it to rest.
[name]Ava[/name]- Yes, I agree this is too popular. I have some suggestions and variations at the bottom of the post that I think you would like.
[name]Laine[/name]- Sounds like “lane.” It doesn’t quite cut it as a name on it’s own, for me.

Middle names (We want it to be a variation of one of these family names):
[name]Lee[/name]-- [name]Lia[/name] is cute (My friend [name]Claudia[/name] calls herself “[name]Lia[/name],” which is a bit of a stretch from her real name, but it suits her). [name]How[/name] about [name]Leana[/name], [name]Leonore[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]Leatrice[/name], Leeba (It’s Yiddish), [name]Leocadia[/name], [name]Leona[/name], [name]Leontine[/name]/Leontina, Leolani, [name]Leora[/name], Leosia, [name]Levia[/name]?
[name]Carol[/name]-- [name]Cara[/name] seems to fit your tastes, and she’s cool. [name]How[/name] about [name]Carola[/name], or something with the same meaning? [name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Lottie[/name]?), [name]Carina[/name], [name]Carlotta[/name], [name]Charlene[/name], Harata, Hiari, Libera/Librada, [name]Sarolta[/name], [name]Siarl[/name]. Anything pop out? I don’t like Carington, it’s very surnamey and not very feminine. :
[name]Mary[/name]-- Oooh, plenty of variations on [name]Mary[/name]! Here we go: [name]Maria[/name], [name]Miriam[/name] (nn [name]Miri[/name]?), [name]Marion[/name], [name]Maia[/name], Mairin, [name]Manon[/name], [name]Mara[/name], [name]Mariah[/name], [name]Marian[/name], [name]Marie[/name], [name]Maricela[/name], [name]Mariel[/name], [name]Marieke[/name], [name]Marilou[/name], [name]Marilyn[/name], [name]Maris[/name], Maro, [name]Masha[/name], [name]Maureen[/name], Milou, [name]Moira[/name]
[name]Elaine[/name]-- I like the full [name]Helene[/name] or [name]Helena[/name] (Heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh), it seems to have more substance and character than [name]Elaine[/name] or [name]Elaina[/name]. Other variations are [name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Elinor[/name]/[name]Eleanora[/name]/[name]Eleonore[/name], and with all of them I think you could use the nickname “[name]Ellie[/name].”

It seems like you like the shorter, sweeter names. Here are some further suggestions:

[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Fae[/name]
[name]Aubrey[/name]/[name]Audrey[/name]

[name]Happy[/name] naming! :]

[name]Evie[/name] is a lovely choice, it is very popular in [name]England[/name] but hasn’t seems to have the cross over to [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name] quite yet. It is on my shortlist for whenever i have another baby.

Other names i love:
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Joely[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
