Suggestions please!

I’m expecting baby number 7. My oldest is 21, so we’ve been naming babies for a long time and my taste in names has certainly changed.

I have 3 boys and 3 girls. My boys have Irish or Scottish names that are not super common, but not unheard of–think [name_m]Declan[/name_m] or [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m]. My girls have a surname name, a boyish name, and a word name. All three have feminine middle names.

My question for naming a girl:

If I go with a more feminine first name, will that be too much of a change?

I’m really wanting a name that’s been used for a long, long time. I want it to be not too common now, though, definitely used for women, and I’ll probably use [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or something similar for the middle. I’m worried about this being too much of a change from my other girls since they have more gender neutral/masculine first names.

Advice? Any suggestions on names to use? Thanks!

I don’t think it’s a problem for sibling names to vary in style, it’s more important that you and your partner agree it’s the best name you could find.

I agree that it shouldn’t be based on your other children’s names. You really can’t go wrong with classic names, especially the ones you chose. I really like [name_f]Alice[/name_f]!

Go with what you love. I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]!

I agree with the above posters — finding a name you love is more important than finding a name that fits with siblings. And I also agree that classic names tend to be good utility players anyhow

That being said, you could look for a name of Irish or Scottish origin:

[name_f]Aileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Catriona[/name_f]
[name_f]Ciara[/name_f]
[name_f]Colleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u]

Or a traditionally feminine word name:

[name_f]Blithe[/name_f]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]

Or a frilly feminine name that has a boyish nickname:

[name_f]Alessandra[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Andy[/name_u]
[name_f]Danielle[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Danny[/name_u]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Francine[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] nn. [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_u]Joey[/name_u]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_f]Maxine[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Sam[/name_u]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_f]Veronique[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] nn. [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
