Is she hot? Or not?
Definitely not, for me. Sorry. The “curly” rhyme is what gets me rather than its rather dated feel though, if that helps.
I wouldn’t describe [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] as “sultry” or “hot”. But maybe that’s because there are so many namesakes to choose from: child star [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] (cute), [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables (spunky [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Shirley[/name_f]), [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] (Partridge Family Mom) and singer [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] Bassey ([name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Bond[/name_m] “Goldfinger” song). The last namesake may be a bit sultry but the name itself is “dated”.
I personally dislike the name [name_f]Shirley[/name_f]; some one my family knows and avoids bears this name, and because of it I would never use it for one of my children. Also, it does have the strong association to Miss [name_u]Temple[/name_u] and her curly hair(although, this could be significant because I have curly hair).
Definitely not sultry in the least.
It’s [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] to me, or even the butt of the cheesy joke, “…and don’t call me [name_f]Shirley[/name_f]” (like [name_m]Steve[/name_m] Carrell would always say on The Office in response to a remark with the word “surely…”).
Dated and doomed to never make a comeback, I’m afraid.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] and have always admired and looked up to her, so that does make the name personal for me (as a little girl, my dream was to be like [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] and visit/perform at Radio City [name_f]Music[/name_f] [name_m]Hall[/name_m]) but I’m not so sure on bringing myself to use it. I’m on the fence with this one. If it honours someone, then yes, absolutely. If not, maybe it’s not so great.
I am happy to hear you were not thinking Sultry [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] as a combo. I am personally not a fan of [name_f]Shirley[/name_f]. Sorry. I do think [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u] was adorable.
Well, I do have a friend named [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] and she is pretty sultry. Still, I’m not a huge fan of the name. My husband loves it and has suggested it for future kids, but I could only go there if it was a middle. Sorry…
hahaha, definitely not sultry! I know two Shirleys: a coworker, and a member of my church. I think more of the member of my church, who I rather like as a person. She’s quiet and shy and a bit mousy, but still sweet and kind. She’s a nice, middle-aged lady. She and her husband are both great. I can see it as a bit diminutive, quiet, but still a really good person. Since I have a -ley name, I tend to like most of them ([name_u]Hadley[/name_u], [name_f]Shirley[/name_f], even [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] at one point)–they seem a bit reserved and shy, but to have this natural beauty about them that I like. But I feel like [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] has a while to go before she makes a comeback.
is a beautiful name, but not hot. If you want hot, go with [name_f]Angelina[/name_f].
[name_f]Shirley[/name_f] is forever ingrained to me as [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u], adorable and nowhere near sultry.
