So I have a beautiful little boy named [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]. He’s such a character, happy and smiley. I absolutely LOVE his name and think it suits him to a tee!
I want to give his little sister a vibrant/ happy name also, and my husband and I have always loved the name [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. She is due to arrive in the middle of our summer also.
But can we deal with the criticism of others about the apparent “theme” here? Individually I love both the names, but seems a little silly saying them together. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks it’s cute and doesn’t care what others think.
I think that [name_f]Summer[/name_f] & [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] are darling together! I wouldn’t worry one bit about what people say. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is the name that Mom & Dad love, & that’s what matters. Plus, I don’t honestly think that they sound too match-y at all.
I really don’t mind theme at all, but I do feel like the names just sound too similar. Sum and [name_f]Sun[/name_f]? M and N are just too easy to mishear, in my opinion.
Maybe [name_f]Summer[/name_f] as a middle and something else as a first?
I like [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] and [name_f]Summer[/name_f] as a sibset exactly because they sound so fun and lighthearted. One thing I would consider is whether you plan to have a 3rd (or 4th etc) child because that’s when things can get very theme-like. If you don’t feel backed into a corner by having 2 “s” names then I’d say go for it.
I love a name theme personally. The only problem comes if you feel boxed in down the line and you can’t come up with new names to fit the theme. But if you’re not bothered by having to break a potential theme and you’re not even thinking of it as a theme I wouldn’t worry about it. Use the names you love.
