I was thinking about season names (I quite like them) and thought I would name a boy [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or maybe a girl [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and then I thought why couldn’t a boy be named [name_f]Summer[/name_f]?
I think it’d be sooo cute on a little boy, but wonder how well it’d work for a teen or adult. I think it could work. I picture someone who is super easy going and outdoorsy and cheerful with a great sense of humor.
I think [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is such a pretty word and has great imagery and feelings associated. It’s quite fun to say. I also think it could be considered a boyish sound when I think of [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] and [name_m]Connor[/name_m] and the like.
While [name_f]Summer[/name_f] has most commonly been used for girls I don’t see why it couldn’t work on a boy. Season and nature names feel very gender neutral to me by default and only really become gendered by popular usage. And [name_f]Summer[/name_f] has a lot of similarities to some very popular boy’s names.
I do think to help with confusion because of how gendered it has become in usage, a very strongly masc leaning middle or a double barreled first with [name_f]Summer[/name_f] (and you could judt call him [name_f]Summer[/name_f]) would help tip people so they don’t make assumptions.
I’ve met boys called [name_f]Star[/name_f], [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Storm[/name_u] which give me similar vibes, so I think [name_f]Summer[/name_f] could work. Plus, [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]/[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] would be a great potential nickname. Not sure I’d be brave enough to use it though
I don’t see it as a big problem. If it’s more the sound you like rather than the meaning, maybe you could use [name_f]Sommer[/name_f] or [name_m]Sumner[/name_m]
I think it could definitely work for a boy. It’s all about people’s mindsets. If I were to meet a boy named [name_f]Summer[/name_f], it probably wouldn’t seem that weird to me. If you’re worried about it being too feminine, spelling it [name_f]Sommer[/name_f] might make it seem more masculine. I also think that it would be a great nature middle name.
Mmm, I can totally see it on a boy, teen and man! It’s cuteness and sophisticated and now that I’ve read this I think I prefer it on a boy. [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] is a great nn and you could always spell it [name_f]Sommer[/name_f].
Oh my…it’s much too frilly of a word for a boy. Amazing what one letter change can do. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is girly. [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] is masculine.
I think it would work but I do find it very feminine. [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] is all male to me though. I know a [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] who went by [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]. Not a natural nickname for [name_m]Sumner[/name_m] but it worked!
Hmm I don’t know. I definitely would assume girl due to popularity and find it slightly dated so wouldn’t gush on either gender, but I think I would PREFER it on a boy.
I actually really love it? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised because I tend to like softer names for boys but there’s something super cool about the idea of a boy named [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. I do think it would take the right boy to pull it off, although it would be really cool when he does. I went to school with a boy named [name_f]McKenna[/name_f] who totally pulled it off and was super popular.
Names like this are super interesting to me. Like there are some that I wish were genuinely unisex because I prefer them on a boy or think they’d be so cool if they were thought of as boys’ names. (Ex: [name_u]Piper[/name_u] as a cool guy’s name would be awesome!)
That’s kinda how I feel about [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. I was just thinking about how cool it would be if society thought of it as a boy’s name. After reading all of your responses, (THANK YOU <3) I think that Summer might be better off as a character’s name than a child’s perhaps.
I also love the idea of Sommer or Sumner, both of which seem totally masculine to me.
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] is on my list for both genders, it’s my favorite season and I was born smack dab in the middle. If I had a summer babe myself I’d consider doing something with it.
I’ve never actually met a [name_f]Summer[/name_f] irl at all, so I have no female connection with it. I do think of the band 5 Seconds of [name_f]Summer[/name_f], so that may be what’s putting this cute young guy image in my head. I view it as a nature name, like [name_u]Winter[/name_u], and I don’t think it’s been nearly as popular for girls as [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], at least for my age group.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] going by its sound and its vibe, [name_f]Summer[/name_f] doesn’t lean particularly hard or soft to me, which is usually my determining factor whether I’m going to prefer a unisex name on a boy or girl. I don’t think it would be any harder for a boy to rock than a stuffy or quirky vintage name.
But I spent a chunk of my life thinking [name_u]Logan[/name_u] was a girl’s name and [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] was a boy’s name so I don’t know anymore…lol.
