About to enter my third trimester with baby girl. What is your opinion on Sunnie Marigold? Here is the reason for our choice:
Sunnie: I had a dream 3 1/2 years ago about a little girl and at the same time saw in my dream one letter at a time S-u-n-n-i-e, like she was telling me her name and showing me how to spell it.
Marigold: My mom’s name is Mary and my husband has always loved the name Goldie for a girl (would like it for this girl) and Golden for a boy. Plus marigolds are my dad’s favorite flower, my mom always had them planted on the sidewalk to the entrance of my childhood home, and I read that a marigold is a symbol of the virgin Mary.
I love all the reasons behind both names, but HOW DOES THE ACTUAL NAME COMBO SOUND/ COME ACROSS???
*add on: We also like Sunnie Mae. Mae is a diminutive of Mary.
I think the meaning behind the names is really so beautiful, but in full honesty my reaction to the name at first glance was that it’s a bit too word-heavy, like “sunny marigold” is a descriptor, which makes it feel very cutesy. And even cutesier with the [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] spelling which is fine, but I don’t really like it personally, because it feels a bit insubstantial to me and at first I wanted to pronounce it soon-ee instead of sun-ee. But if you’re sold on it, then I think it does work!
It comes across very youthful, bright and energetic and has the feeling of summertime. Personally I’d switch the names to [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] as [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] feels like a name that is more wearable as an adult and gives her a few more nickname options as she grows older and [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] could easily be one of those. It’s a very happy name that makes you want to smile.
I’m in love. It’s a great combo and absolutley adorable. I would go with [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and if she gets older and wants a full name she can always use her middle.
I actually see [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] aging just fine especially now a days. If [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] can be respectable so can [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u].
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is one of my favourite names.
But [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is a lot, and when I picture myself, a 30 something professional, I struggle to feel like introducing myself as [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] as a good thing. I wonder if there’s a name you could use [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] as a nickname for, to get the best of both worlds. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] feels like it has a bit more depth and gravity.
I personally prefer it [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] with nn [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], but I’m probably being very old fashioned and thinking of the more traditional name going first. Given your dream and all the layers of meaning, I think you should 100% go for it in one form or another.
I think it’s cute, but it’s a bit wordy, and I personally would change the spelling to [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. I think I like pps suggestions of [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u].
I tend to agree with the general trend in replies you have so far, that [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is lovely and the meanings you have are wonderful, but it’s a very sunshiney name. What if [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] is a little thundercloud? (Some of my favourite kids I looked after in childcare had stormy personalities!) If it was me, I’d be inclined to give [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] a less sunny middle name, that she could use if she wants to. I’m thinking that [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] could be [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] and even [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] as a nn. So I like your idea of [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or something like [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] or [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Mara[/name_f] for grandma [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I also think that with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] Something [name_f]Else[/name_f], you could still call her [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] and [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u], it works well both ways.
Oh my gosh I adore [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
She’s bright, youthful, energetic and with a fun bohemian flair. I do prefer [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. For me [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] just looks visually prettier and feels more intuitive in comparison to the ie spelling. I love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] she’s so fun and a great way to honour your mother, your husband love of ‘gold’ and your dad as well. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is fab! I love how truly adorable she sounds with Sunnie/Sunny.
Not a fan of [name_u]Sunnie[/name_u] / [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] but it is very fresh and youthful I think. Nothing bad about it objectively, I just don’t like it.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is a name that it is not my style but I appreciate for others. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if I am not a great fan of it it is still a strong and nice name.
Overall, very floreal, youthful and summery. Nice choice.
