I’m really falling for Sunset as my girls name… Is it completely crazy? Or do you think it’s usable? Full name would be Sunset [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown sister to [name]Vale[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Darby[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. All responses very welcome: feel free to be brutally honest - I’d rather know now!
Well it would fit her siblings’ names but I’m not sure it’s the best choice. Personally, I’m not that a big fan of Sunset especially because I’ve never heard it on a person, and second because I can’t see any nn for Sunset except [name]Sunny[/name] or [name]Set[/name] and I don’t really like those.
BUT if you choose a classic MN I’m sure it can perfectly work.
I think it’s cute and totally usable! I like the nicknames Sun, Sunny, Sky, and Nyx(night). It’s a little “out there” but if my name was Sunset I’d like that my name was different
It’s definitely “out there” and you might get some bad feedback from family and friends but after thinking about it I like it. And I think [name]Sunny[/name] is a cute nn.
I know you love it, but personally, I don’t think it’s usable.
I also don’t think it fits with your other kids’ names (which I actually love, by the way, especially [name]Vale[/name]). While their names are not mainstream, they seem more versatile. Sunset just makes me think of a flower-child. Cute, but it would almost pigeonhole her into a “role.” I think it would be better in the middle spot, if you really love it!
Perhaps Somerset (with its literary association) would be a better option than Sunset.
It’s nice with the siblings, but I don’t like it on a person. I’d roll my eyes at hearing it, but find it sweet in a way.
I think Somerset is wonderful. If you’re a sun-worshipper, maybe [name]Sol[/name] names… [name]Solomon[/name] for a boy, [name]Solange[/name] for a girl? [name]Skylar[/name]? There’s always [name]Dawn[/name].
You thinks it’s usable, but you would change it if it’s your’s?
Sorry but no. [name]Sunny[/name] is sweet perhaps as a middle or a nickname, but Sunset feels very tacky to me, a bit stripper/hooker/hippy. I love her siblings names though.
Thankyou all. I am rethinking with your comments so obviously not the one! [name]May[/name] be I’ll save it for our next dog…!
I like it though! Especially with your last name. It creates a warm, glowing, beautiful image. It doesn’t sound anything like the boys’ names, which I find important when thinking of names. Are you going to stop with the fourth baby? If so, it would be a nice symbolism, too. I say forget the haters, keep this on the list!
I agree. Too hippy-dippy on one end or trashy on the opposite.
Still liking this… oh dear, can’t decide. Sunset [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown, just sounds so dreamy and perfect to me… maybe not though… Haha, I’m so indecisive!
I think it could be sweet in the middle. Sunset is very hippie/out-there, but on top of that it’s hissy/ S heavy to my ear. Maybe [name]Twyla[/name] or even Dusky or [name]Golden[/name] or some other out-there naturey word name with a nicer sound & similar image? Or look for names that mean sunset? I don’t think Sunset is a terrible, cruel name…it’s really not, nut I think you could do better sound-wise while projecting the style/image you’re going for.
[name]Twyla[/name] Sunset?
[name]Jessica[/name] Sunset?
I like Sunset [name]Jessica[/name] Ashdown, too. It’s more hippie/nature to me (which I think is good) than trashy strippery, and I find it hard to believe that once there’s an actual child to attach it to that people will think it’s any of the negative things people are saying about it. I say if you still like it and find it “perfect” and “dreamy,” then don’t cross it off the list!
Since you asked for brutal honesty, no I don’t think it’s usable at all. It’s really trying too hard to be different.
Middle spot would be ok, I am also a “anything goes in the middle” kind of person. Or maybe you can use two middles?
Sunset feels very tacky to me, like for an adult entertainer.
What about Sunniva?
It sounds like the name of a horse…not a little girl
Honestly, I usually [name]LOVE[/name] “out there” names…heck, we’re pretty sure our son’s mn will be [name]Rocket[/name]! BUT, Sunset in comparison with the down-right FABULOUS names you’ve given your sons just doesn’t “shine” (pardon the pun). :-(. I mean, [name]Vale[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], and [name]Darby[/name] are [name]FAN[/name]-FRICKIN-TASTIC! Sunset just seems cheap and trailer-trashy next to them…also, dare I say, slightly stripperish (sorry!). And I really dislike the nn [name]Sunny[/name] - always have.
I feel I really need time to think through a good name to fit into this mix, but off the top of my head I can come up with these:
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Winter[/name]
[name]Lux[/name]
[name]Minka[/name]
[name]Scout[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Layla[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
Ciolet
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Saoirse[/name]
[name]Orla[/name]
[name]Carys[/name]
[name]Bidu[/name]
None of those seem perfect, and really if YOU love Sunset…well, it’s YOUR kiddo. You can do whatever you want; so take what I’ve said with a grain of salt. :-). GL to you!
