Surname help for soon to be married couple

I am not sure if anyone will be able to help but I am hoping someone might be able too.

Two of my friends will soon be married. They both want to choose a surname they both love or just like to change their surname too upon marriage. They both have heavy baggage with the surnames they each have now and neither want to keep their surname once married. They want a new start.

They are both English so are looking for a English surname. They both agree they want a brand new surname, not something from one of their family trees. At least not anything in the last century.

I really like Waters.

I’d hope they look for something that has a meaning that resonates with them, rather than taking something with an arbitrary etymology/history of which they can’t feel a sense of ownership.

I think something like Waters that has meaning to modern ears, but doesn’t sound like (and isn’t) a recent invention, would be a good choice.
