Surname Names!

What are some of your favorite surnames that would be usable as a baby name? What are some last names you’ve heard around town that you’ve completely fallen for?

From mine and DH’s family, I would consider [name]Collier[/name], [name]Stewart[/name], [name]Cannon[/name], [name]Field[/name], [name]Elliott[/name], and [name]Judson[/name] at least as middle names.

I would only use them as middles but these are ones from my family tree:
Halen (Maiden Name)
[name]Soren[/name] (mil full maiden was Sorenson)
Lindley
[name]Hayden[/name]
Kirkpatrick (my cousin’s name is [name]Kirk[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] and he has a son named [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Kirk[/name])

I would only use my own family’s surnames because otherwise it is just strange. I would also only use them for a boy (except Lindley).

I’m not a huge fan of surnames as first names (at least ones that don’t have a family connection), but there are a few I like. I’d definitely consider using any family surname (if it wasn’t too bizarre as a first name) or tweaking it to suit my taste. For example, [name]Jackson[/name] becomes [name]Jack[/name] or [name]Jones[/name] becomes [name]Jonas[/name]. Surnames that don’t run in my family that I’d consider using are:
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Mackenzie[/name] (on a boy- I’d probably never actually consider using it, but I do love it)
[name]Paxton[/name]

I’m a long way off from naming kids, and I don’t think I’d use a surname name anyway. But here are some I love :

On a girl, I like:
[name]Calloway[/name] (with the nn [name]Callie[/name])
Snowden (nn [name]Snow[/name])
[name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Monroe[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name]

[name]Quade[/name]
[name]Forester[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Frasier[/name]

For boys, [name]Donovan[/name], [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Sullivan[/name] are 3 of my favorites.

I like surnames for boys. I would mostly pick surnames from my family, but mostly just in the middle spot.

We named our baby boy [name]Jones[/name]. He’s now almost 5 months old and although I like the name and think it’s cool and original (as a first name), I have my concerns. The problem I have is that I feel other people don’t like the name. Whenever anyone asks what his name is, I hardly ever get a “oh, that’s a neat name” response. It’s usually “oh”, accompanied by a weird look. I often wonder if we’ve cursed our child with an odd name (but then again, there are [name]WAY[/name] more unusual names out there). Sometimes I even think about changing his name to [name]Alex[/name] so I wouldn’t worry about him having a “different” name. Am I having baby name remorse?

BTW, [name]Jones[/name] has no family connection. We just liked it as a first name. His middle name is [name]Dean[/name], after my dad.
