To those who are not married, and/or don’t have children, and/or don’t know what your child’s surname will be…what do you do about your surname when making combos?
I have a fairly long and complicated Eastern European last name. I usually just don’t incorporate it into my combos because I think it would sound awful with a name like [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] or [name_u]Jericho[/name_u], but I’m not willing to give up those names because of it.
I’m just curious what other peoples techniques are.
haha, same! My surname is common and fairly British in sound (think [name_m]Roberts[/name_m]), but I think it sounds pretty bad with my “R”-heavy names (like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]!). It also doesn’t sound great with my -er favorites, like [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], etc. I sort of just ignore it at this point, or, if I’m being honest, if there’s a guy I really like at the moment, I’ll try out my super favorites (like [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], and [name_f]Adele[/name_f]) with his surname haha! If I get to a good place financially in my life (i.e., not living with my parents lol), I may adopt while I’m still single, so if I do that, I’d probably try to find a name that sounds good with my current surname. I love the idea of a double-barrel name, though, so I also try out [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_m]Roberts[/name_m]-Kozlowski or [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_m]Roberts[/name_m]-[name_u]McKinley[/name_u] or something occasionally.
