I think any surname works as a middle name actually and I love to see mom’s maiden name in the middle spot!

This is pretty much my answer too. I love surnames as middle names, especially when they have some kind of special significance (family name or some other namesake) though of course that’s not required.

I agree that family surnames as middles are a lovely way to honour a whole branch of the family tree, and include some fun, unexpected names of course!

Non-family favourites for me include jaunty surnames like [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Calloway[/name_u], [name_f]Holliday[/name_f], [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] as well as hero/namesake names like [name_f]Earhart[/name_f], [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m], [name_m]Faraday[/name_m], [name_f]Havilland[/name_f], [name_m]Thackeray[/name_m], [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u], [name_f]Angelou[/name_f].

Agree about family surnames! I also like [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], Romeril, [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u], [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u], etc.

I’d love to include Sturm somewhere in the middle spot as it’s a family surname, but I don’t think I’d be brave enough.

One of my best friends’ middle name is [name_m]Drury[/name_m], it flows perfectly with the rest of her name. Another friend’s surname is [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and she used it for her daughter’s middle name. [name_f]My[/name_f] maiden name is Vitells, which does NOT work :frowning: But my married name is [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], which would make a nice middle name!
