[name]General[/name] opinions on the name [name]Susan[/name]?
Yuck!!! Lol That’s my gut reaction but more because I’m constantly called [name]Susan[/name] by people who don’t know how to pronounce my name… [name]Susanne[/name]. Growing up, several of my friends’ moms were named [name]Susan[/name], so to me, it’s not a baby name. If you were naming a baby now, I would suggest [name]Susannah[/name]. I feel that [name]Susan[/name] needs more time before it makes a comeback.
Very dated.
Definitely ready for a comeback. The mom image will shed after a few years (hopefully!). The more times I says [name]Susan[/name] in my head and image a girl in every stage of her life with that name, the more it sounds okay to use. Maybe that’s just me but I really like it!
I never used to like it, as it’s my mom’s name (I [name]LOVE[/name] my mom, but you know how “mom names” feel). My own middle name is the shortened form [name]Sue[/name]. It always felt too middle-aged-womany. [name]Susan[/name], the full name, started to grow on me when The Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name] films came out in theaters and I was able to see it on a young girl. Still, I think [name]Susannah[/name] sounds more fitting on today’s generation. I recently went wedding gown shopping with my friend who has a complicated Spanish name, and she told the saleswoman to just call her [name]Sue[/name] ([name]Su[/name]- being her real first syllable anyway) . It felt so odd on her, and I really disliked it. She’s such a beautiful, fashionable girl, and [name]Sue[/name] felt so old and heavy on her.
I really love [name]Susannah[/name].
My positive association for [name]Susan[/name] is [name]Narnia[/name]. I don’t dislike [name]Susan[/name] as much as a lot of other names of that era. But I don’t love it. I do love [name]Susie[/name], as a nickname, but would probably get to it or [name]Suki[/name] via [name]Susannah[/name].
I like [name]Susan[/name] okay (much better than [name]Linda[/name], about like [name]Nancy[/name]), but really like [name]Susannah[/name]-- the nn [name]Susie[/name] for either is adorable.
[name]Susan[/name] is pretty dated, but I too have a positive association through Chronicles of [name]Narnia[/name]… I remember kind of liking the name through the books/movies, maybe because I liked the character.
I much prefer [name]Susannah[/name] though, in full or with the nn Suze.
I’m ok with it. If I used the name for a little girl she would almost solely go by [name]Susie[/name] for her entire childhood. Though I do really like that [name]Susan[/name] gives her a very stable name for when she is an adult.
[name]Love[/name] it & it’s ready for a come back (along with [name]Nancy[/name], [name]Linda[/name], [name]Karen[/name], [name]Jean[/name])
I would be so charmed to meet a [name]Susan[/name] but I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a [name]Susanna[/name] or a [name]Zuzu[/name], both of which I think are having a moment right now.
