[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is far and away your loveliest combo imo. Not a fan of [name]Zuzu[/name] either?
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] works too, but [name]Ruby[/name] is much trendier.
I really dont, I just like [name]Susannah[/name] on its own!
I am a [name]Susanne[/name], and I go by [name]Susanne[/name] most of the time. I was called [name]Susie[/name] a bit when I was very small, but as soon as I was in school, I was [name]Susanne[/name] all the time. I was [name]Su[/name] for a while in university, and my brother and husband still call me [name]Su[/name] often, but most people use my full name. You just have to mention to people a few times that she is [name]Susannah[/name], not [name]Susie[/name], and it will stick My biggest pet piece is when people call me [name]Susan[/name], but you’ve solved that problem with the ‘ah’
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is a lovely name. I think you should go for it.
Not sure you can curb nicknames for susannah as it’s so long! Seems daft that your family is already shortening it though!!
I like both claire and ruby.
I think that people will call her what you tell them to, until she is old enough to say “Call me [name]Susie[/name]/[name]Sue[/name]/Twinklefoot”
At that point you have no choice. I think if you’re clear with people that you prefer she’d be called [name]Susannah[/name], they’ll listen. [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is such a beautiful name.
@lilysong- thank you so much for that. So happy to hear from someone with a similar name! This eased my nerves quite a bit!
@jamiejamiemomamie- You’re right, if she wants to be called [name]Sue[/name]/[name]Susie[/name]/[name]Zuzu[/name]/Twinklefoot, then it’s alright with me. I don’t think I can really give up on [name]Susannah[/name], it’s just MY daughter.
Thanks again for all the feedback. Any other [name]Susannah[/name]'s out there? What were your nicknames?
[name]Susannah[/name] is lovely, but I wouldn’t use it if you absolutely don’t like [name]Susie[/name]. It’s like using [name]Annabelle[/name] and hating [name]Annie[/name] or [name]Rosalie[/name] and hating [name]Rose[/name].
My vote is for [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]
Would [name]Sosie[/name] be more bearable for you than [name]Susie[/name]? It doesn’t have that 1950s vibe that [name]Susie[/name] has–in fact, fits right in with [name]Josie[/name], which has come into style–and I find it adorable. I think you definitely can teach people to call [name]Susannah[/name] by her full name (I know a [name]Daniel[/name] who is always [name]Daniel[/name] and an [name]Emily[/name] who is always [name]Emily[/name]), but if your family, like most families, has a tendency to crop names in daily usage, you may want to keep searching for a [name]Susannah[/name] nickname you’re comfortable with. I know a [name]Susan[/name] who was called “Sus” as a child (rhymes with “[name]Zeus[/name]”), and is still called that as an adult by people closest to her. It sounds like you don’t want to give up [name]Susannah[/name], and you shouldn’t have to, but perhaps for your family’s sake you can find something they can call her for short, even if it’s a pet name unrelated to [name]Susannah[/name].
I like [name]Zuzu[/name] or [name]Annie[/name]… [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corrine[/name] has a really nice balance of 3-2 syllables…
I’m not a fan of [name]Susannah[/name] so I picked [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Corrine[/name], it’s so adorable!
I know a [name]Susannah[/name] (middle name [name]Clare[/name]) who goes by [name]Sue[/name] on occasion but her full name most of the time. It is doable.
Well, I love both [name]Susannah[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]. We just did not allow nicknames for our kids. You CAN insist that your child is not [name]Susie[/name]. I have know [name]Susannah[/name]'s that always went by their first names. [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is gorgeous!
I will say that there is something special about [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]!
If you really despise the nicknames for [name]Susannah[/name] (like really despise them), then I would pick something else. If they are annoying but don’t bother you tremendously, then I would stick with your choice. I love the name [name]Susannah[/name] and I think most people will follow your lead and call her what you want to call her. There will, of course, be some people with their own ideas so you will probably hear its shortened forms from time to time. I think the nickname [name]Susie[/name] is adorable and has this very sweet, retro charm to it … but I can understand if it’s not for you!
[name]Susannah[/name] is by far the best name. I love it, too, and will probably name my first daughter [name]Susannah[/name].
[name]Susannah[/name] is a long name. She will be nicknamed [name]Susie[/name] and there’s nothing you can do about that. You can still call her [name]Susannah[/name], but its like naming a boy [name]Christopher[/name] and expecting he’s never going to be called [name]Chris[/name].
Oh please keep stay with [name]Susannah[/name]! It’s so lovely! Who cares what other people call her, so long as you and your husband call her [name]Susannah[/name]? You can correct people when the call her [name]Susie[/name]. [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corrine[/name] has beautiful balance, and you might always regret giving up a favourite name just because of what others might or might not call her. Maybe when she’s old enough she’ll INSIST on being called [name]Susannah[/name]. Or maybe it’ll be [name]Susie[/name]. Who knows? But right now, [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corrine[/name] is lovely and perfect.
Creepy… the [name]Susannah[/name] I know had a brother named [name]Christopher[/name], lol. Again he went by [name]Chris[/name] some of the time but his mother (and other adults) always called him [name]Christopher[/name].
I think you should go for [name]Susannah[/name], since you clearly really love it! Two comments:
I have a good friend named [name]Susannah[/name]. She is always [name]Susannah[/name], and as far as I know, as never been anything else. So it’s really possible. Maybe people call her [name]Susie[/name] now, sort of in the abstract, but once she’s born, it’s really quite possible that when they see her as a real, live person, with an actual name, the full name will stick. If that makes any sense. And [name]Susannah[/name] really isn’t that long - it’s just three syllables - a nickname is NOT inevitable.
Second, don’t not choose [name]Susannah[/name] because you hate [name]Susie[/name]! My mom hated [name]Vicki[/name] - and I hate [name]Vicki[/name] - but I’m still really glad she named me [name]Victoria[/name]! And I’m always [name]Victoria[/name], never [name]Vicki[/name]. I think in a case like that, and with [name]Susannah[/name], you just need to correct people politely once or twice, and that’s that. And [name]Victoria[/name]'s got four syllables! Not a big deal at all!
What do they say when you say “We’re not going to call her [name]Susie[/name].”? I do NOT understand people nicknaming a child without first hearing it from the parents. My name is [name]Catherine[/name] and I never went by a nickname – to this day, ever. Sometimes people ask me what I go by and I say “[name]Catherine[/name].” I really really have never understood the threads where people say “If you don’t like X, don’t call him XYZ.” You call your children what you want to call them and if someone calls them something else (which is obnoxious!) you correct them, and there is nothing snobby, obnoxious or whatever about that. It is your child.
[name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is absolutely lovely and has a great flow. [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] is also really beautiful and has a great sound, and to be honest, just seeing the poll (without reading your post), I thought [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] would get my vote, but having read your story, I definitely vote for [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]. If you love it, stick to your guns!
That said, I knew a [name]Susannah[/name] who went by [name]Sookie[/name]. I never cared for it, but maybe it could be an option. You could also come up with a nn that feels right after she’s born that has nothing to do with her name. I have a friend whose daughter is [name]Layla[/name] and she calls her [name]Layla[/name] Bug, but more and more is just calling her Bug. Obviously this isn’t a “nametag” nickname, just a true nickname to be used only occasionally, but it’s your kid. You can call her whatever you want.
Thank you for the support.
I come from a fairly conservative family, so [name]Susannah[/name] was acceptable. When I brought up [name]Ruby[/name], I got some stares and sighs. I’m not as conservative as my parents, so I feel like I was bullied into [name]Susannah[/name]. I talked to my mom about it and she said she liked [name]Ruby[/name], she just didn’t know how it would settle with my father. My husbands side of the family is really accepting and chill about things, they back up whatever name we like. I guess it will require some thought.
