Sutton?

I know it’s trendy being a surname and all, but I like [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. I actually like the surname trend, too, to some degree, though I usually lean toward the more obscure surnames rather than ones like [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], etc. Anywho, my question is this–

Is [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] too associated with girls now to be used as a boy’s name?

Also, if you were to use it on a boy, what middle names might you use with it? Our last name is pronounced MUHN-see.

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] used to be on my boys list actually! I think it’s really nice, I just grew less fond of it for my own list.

I don’t think it’s too associated with girls, as it doesn’t rank very high for girls at all right now (#672), and it’s only been in the top 1000 for girls for three years. It also ranks for boys, debuting last year at #950, so I’d find that pretty evenly split tbh.

When [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] was on my list, I had [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] as a combo

I’ve only seen [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] used as a surname, so I don’t see it as feminine.

Maybe it’s just because I keep thinking of the actress [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Foster[/name_m]. She’s the only girl I know of named [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. I don’t know of any in person, but I don’t know any boys with that name either. When I look [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] up online, though, most posts seem to be about girl Suttons. So I don’t know. lol

It might be a southern thing, but it does not sound nice at all when I say it. It’s sort of like Sutt’n. Otherwise I like it!

I like it for both genders. Definitely could work and fits in as a surname name.

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Davis[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Grant[/name_m]

@kristenwhite - I guess that’s basically how it comes out when I say it, too. lol If I’m deliberate about it, I actually pronounce to ‘o.’

@ziggy2112 - Thanks for the suggestions! I like them all, actually. haha Last name is Muhn-see, though…just wondering if there’s too many repeated sounds with [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Davis[/name_m] Muhn-see?

I really like it. To me, it reads all boy and most boys names do double as surnames, even common ones such as James and Oliver. Sutton would go well with so many middles. I would look for a one syllable or three syllable name, otherwise I think you would have 2-2-2 which is fine, but not as interesting.

Sutton Drew
Sutton Barnaby
Sutton Tate
Sutton Davis
Sutton Rio
Sutton Alexander (as pp suggested)

Oh, I just saw your last post and [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Davis[/name_m] Muhn-see is great! My apologies @ziggy2112 as I hadn’t seen that you had already suggested [name_m]Davis[/name_m].

I think [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] feels more like a boy’s name with the sounds of the name. That said the only Suttons I have met are a teenaged girl and a fourty-something woman (that one was a surprise since I wouldn’t think [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] would be a name used a couple decades ago). In any event, I think it’s usable for a boy and it would flow well with your last name. I’d probably opt for something classic in the middle name slot.

[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Marshall[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]

etc

Thanks for the suggestions, @whitegardenia and @pacifica. =]

I really like [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] with ‘M’ middles, but I don’t love alliteration all the time, so it’s a struggle with our last name. haha You have definitely given me some middles to ponder, though. I appreciate it!

I have this name on my list. I love it on both genders ”:blue_heart:

Its cute. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] surnamey but also kinda cute

Thanks for the feedback @mhill46 and @jamesonwts!

@jamesonwts: [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] is quite surname-y, yes. haha While I don’t like a lot of the super popular surname names like [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] and [name_u]Parker[/name_u] (mostly because I’m a bit tired of hearing them, not because they’re bad names), I do find myself liking some of the less common surnames like [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_m]Foster[/name_m], [name_m]Dawson[/name_m], [name_u]Tierney[/name_u], etc. They’re trendy, but I don’t really mind. =]
