I’m curious what your thoughts are on the name [name_f]Swan[/name_f]. I was considering it as a middle name for my daughter, but we decided to use a family honor name instead. Now I’m wondering, would I be bold enough to use it as a first name for a (at this point totally hypothetical) future daughter?
My current name crush is [name_f]Adele[/name_f], so I’m thinking
[name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f]
Any thoughts on the name [name_f]Swan[/name_f], these combos, or other names you might pair it with? [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to be brutally honest
[name_f]Swan[/name_f] as a first name! I love [name_f]Swan[/name_f] on a little girl. It works really great as a middle for [name_f]Adele[/name_f] too though.
Fine for a middle, and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is lovely.
I can’t picture it as a first name though, names like [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] work fine, but something about [name_f]Swan[/name_f] just doesn’t work for me. Maybe it’s because I’ve been attacked by one - they’re quite vicious birds!!
I think it’s a daring (but completely usable) middle, or a sweet nickname. might find this helpful - some names that could lead to [name_f]Swan[/name_f] as a nickname: Swan-Inspired Baby Names: Lincoln, Odette, Svana - Appellation Mountain
I knew a (very nice)woman who went by [name_f]Swan[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] as a child I assumed it was not her birth name. That said, names are more diverse these days. It’s no stranger than [name_f]Apple[/name_f] or [name_u]Blue[/name_u], and [name_f]Swanhilde[/name_f] is a name with a long history.
Thanks for this great link. I love [name_f]Viveka[/name_f]/[name_f]Vivica[/name_f] and [name_f]Odette[/name_f] though I can feel in advance that my husband would veto them, but nonetheless they are both on my list
Oh dear! It’s really more the sound than the meaning that appeals to me, though at least the swan is a beautiful (if vicious!) bird. Thanks for replying!
Thanks everyone for the replies. I’m not ready to part with [name_f]Swan[/name_f], but it will stay safely tucked in the middle spot (and maybe a family nickname). [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is getting some love, any other combos with [name_f]Swan[/name_f] in the middle are also welcome
Thanks! I once met a little girl name [name_f]Swan[/name_f] and the name has just stuck with me since then. Based on the majority of the replies, I wouldn’t be brave enough to it as a first name, but I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who likes it!
I think it’s too out there for a first name, and agree with PP about swans actually being rather mean in real life and having that association. However, I would say that the middle spot works for almost anything if you love it, and I actually think [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f] sounds beautiful.
I want to love it as a first name. I absolutely love [name_u]Dove[/name_u] and I don’t feel like [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is all that different. I’m not there yet but who knows, in a year it could grow on me. So definitely take the opinions of others with a grain of salt.
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f] is gorgeous though!
I love the name [name_f]Swan[/name_f]! It’s elegant and strong. I think it works fine as a first or a middle, but in this case i prefer [name_f]Adele[/name_f] [name_f]Swan[/name_f]. [name_f]Swan[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] kind off sounds like it’s one name: Swannadele.
Surprisingly, my husband was very “meh” about [name_f]Adele[/name_f], but says he likes [name_f]Swan[/name_f] as a first name (we only talked about it as a middle with our daughter because her name was chosen years in advance!), which is causing me to consider it as a first name again… At any rate, it’s still just a hypothetical second daughter’s name, so we have plenty of time to mull it over
Thanks again for all the opinions! [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to keep 'em coming!
