can we talk about darling adelaide? for those of you that have known me for the two years iāve been on nameberry now, you may know that adelaide has always been on my long-listā¦ since i was in middle school!
recently, iāve found out that adelaide is actually the name of my great-great-great-great-great (give or take a few greatās) grandmother! this family connection has made her all the more sparkly recently.
now, for you allā¦
what do you think of adelaide? what kind of girl do you picture?
So nice to discover that family connection for a name you love so much!! I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] too! Definitely has a spark to it, and seems versatile, with some urban vibes but also nature-loving, open fields and meadows in summer, or bright fall colors and a crisp breezeā¦I picture someone with a laid back temperament, but with plenty of enthusiasm!
As a middle, maybe something short and sweet, likeā¦
I picture a very caring, sweet, and bubbly girl, with curls and freckles, a mischievous grin, and the most melodious laugh, who loves wearing flouncy dresses, having tea parties with her dolls and stuffed animals, and being outside, gardening in her own little flower bed.
Adelaide Iris, maybe?
And for a sibling, Iām thinking Louisa for a sister & Walter for a brother.
I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! Definitely my favourite of the [name_m]Ad[/name_m]- names. [name_f]Addy[/name_f] is a sweet nn.
I picture a strong but laid back, feminine city girl.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Verona[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
Family connections always make names more sparkly to me, too! [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is such a cool one to find. So beautiful!
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] to me is peak rural-chic. Sheās a gal on the ranch, clothes dusty and eyes bright. I picture curls and freckles! A little girl with much to say whoās as happy in her princess costume as she is in her overalls turning cartwheels in the pasture. A yellow, lavender, pale green name. Braids and wispy curls in her eyes.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Fenway[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] (or [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], which I love!)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] āLaideyā and [name_f]Wellesley[/name_f] āWellsā
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
@DropOfsunlight i agree, adelaide does feel very pink! thank you for your insight!
@Zeno8 oh, i love your description of her! i often go more toward nature-y and free-spirited vibes, but i love that it would be versatile enough for any kind of person!
@elanorelle your idea of adelaide sounds like the sweetest thing! it absolutely warmed my heart up to adelaide even more! adelaide iris is lovely too!
@judy.newstead i love love love your idea of adelaide jay! thatās my boyfriendās middle name and i think it would be so sweet for a little girl.
@snowmaiden that is exactly the vibe i was going for! i think adelaide is a perfect cowgirl name!! adelaide luella, adelaide opal, and adelaide fletcher are lovely, and otis and wellesley are perfect sibling names!
I adore [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! It makes me think of the girl from the childrenās book āHeidi,ā whoās full name was [name_f]Adelheid[/name_f]. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is so sweet and charming, and she gives me the feeling of running through a field of wildflowers.
I picture a darling, angelic girl with warm brown eyes and white-blonde hair. Sheās soft-spoken and gentle, and she loves to smile! Her favorite thing to do is to sit in her treehouse and read her favorite book, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland.
Adelaide is gorgeous - itās regal, elegant and sophisticated but flows easily and comes with plenty of approachable nicknames! It just has a wonderful sound! I do imagine a stylish girl, curly hair and big smiles.
Adelaide Ruby is my GP (alas, too close to my brother and cousinās names) but I also like Adelaide Romy.
For siblings: Adelaide and Leonie, or Adelaide and Linus
Iāve always loved [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] too! Very sweet and charming, itās very spring-y to me! (As in the season and being bouncy and fun!) I picture a sweet little girl who loves to play and is kind to and wants to be friends with everyone she meets!
As a combo, I would do
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
For siblings, maybe [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and/or [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] as sister/s, and [name_m]Chester[/name_m], [name_u]Florian[/name_u], and/or [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] as brother/s
[name_u]Loving[/name_u] this family connection for you!
I have two very different vibes in my head for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]! One is almost exactly what @snowmaiden described above, all-American rural charm, and the other is European royalty - āGood [name_f]Queen[/name_f] Adelaideā and āMadameā in The Aristocats, wealth and poise in an Edwardian-style dress, all parasols and lace cuffs.
For a middle name ~
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Snow[/name_u]
For a sibling ~
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]!
I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is the perfect mix of elegance and ease! She feels very princess-ish, but not stuffy. I always picture the actress [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_m]Kane[/name_m] (which is definitely a good imagery to have IMO!)
For a middle name Iād probably go with:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_u]Nesta[/name_u]
I love the suggestion of [name_u]Walter[/name_u] for a brother, but hereās some others!
I love the name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I especially like the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. I picture a bright, bubbly, gregarious, nature- loving girl, with a sweet endearing personality.
@may.rose i agree, it is quite summery! i love your sisterset; adelaide pearl and florence juniper are so so sweet.
@autumn.leaves oh, you mightāve sold adelaide to me even more! i completely forgot about the heidi connection. that is one of my most beloved childrenās booksā i love the idea of my adelaide having her own special story!
@Greybluedoesnāt it!? and adelaide ruby is lovely!
@babynames17 thank you for your response! adelaide vera is for sure going on my list. vera is a family name too!
@persephonescrown i loved reading your two ideas of adelaide and your adelaide combos are just so inspired! thank you stephie!
