Sweet, nature name for boy

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all!

We are due with a baby boy this [name_f]July[/name_f] and are so stuck with names! I’ve searched and searched and cannot find something that my husband and I will ever agree upon. I’m afraid this baby will be born nameless!

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes very classic names ([name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Sean[/name_m]) which I dislike with a passion - and I like bohemian, nature sounding names ([name_f]Indigo[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u]). We are both at a crossroads since we can’t seem to find something that will fit the both of us! [name_m]How[/name_m] do you ever mix these two styles together?!

We already have a little boy named [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] ([name_u]Finn[/name_u]) [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and we just adore his name. I will admit it took some convincing on my husband’s part to go with [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], but in the end we both adore it. Had this little one been a girl, we would have most likely named her [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] which seemed like a very good mix of classic and nature - but boys are a little harder to do this with!

Does anyone have any ideas on names that are sweet and nature loving, but still with a classic feel? HELP!

Thanks so much!

[name_u]Leaf[/name_u]/[name_m]Leif[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_u]Ash[/name_u]
[name_m]Woody[/name_m]

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]

Good luck!

[name_u]Kai[/name_u] has many meanings depending on the ethnic background, but one or more is related to water.
In addition to [name_u]Kai[/name_u]! what about:
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], it’s meaning is related to the sun
I think [name_u]River[/name_u] would be a handsome middle name.
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u]
[name_u]Juneau[/name_u] or [name_u]Junot[/name_u]
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u]
[name_m]Marshall[/name_m] …means someone who cares for horses
[name_m]Silvan[/name_m] ( color or color like names can work )
Any place name could be an option, like [name_m]Cyprus[/name_m], [name_u]Dakota[/name_u], [name_m]Prescott[/name_m], [name_u]Denver[/name_u], etc
[name_u]Channing[/name_u] means to resemble a wolf cub

Does anyone have any ideas on names that are sweet and nature loving, but still with a classic feel? HELP!

Thanks so much![/QUOTE]

I think that [name_m]Heath[/name_m] fits the bill nicely.

Or you may be interested in [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] which I think is a wonderful name, it is one of my favourites and means land of lochs (lakes).

Best wishes

[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Reed[/name_u]
[name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]

Thank you all so much! Some awesome suggestions!!! Can’t wait to hear more. You all have my style pretty nailed!

So far, my faves:
[name_m]Leif[/name_m] (husband also vetoed, he said it reminded him of [name_m]Leif[/name_m] [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]?)
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] (just not 100%)
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] (although this has been on my name list for months and my husband is not so keen on it - what do you think as far as “normalcy” of this name? would it appear normal on a resume when he’s 18 years old? it truly is one of my favorites)
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] (adore this, but have a hard time not thinking of the actor)
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] (doesn’t flow super well with our last name which is also two syllable)

With my first, I felt like it was so much easier. I know at some point something will just stick, but I’m still searching!

If it makes you think of [name_m]Heath[/name_m] the actor then look at all his films and admire his talent and that will give you lots of good vibes.

[name_m]Heath[/name_m] is a top pick for me. If I had 100% control over what a son of mine and my husband’s would be, almost definitely he would be [name_m]Heath[/name_m].

I also like:

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. The stone is beautiful but not girly.
Jarrah - an Australian nature name, a kind of tree. Similar to [name_m]Judah[/name_m]/[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]/[name_m]Jared[/name_m] in sound, but with a warm nature feel.
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] - The falcons strike me as so beautiful.
Corvid/[name_u]Corbin[/name_u] - I think this is really subtle natural nod (both tying to ravens) also [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] and either of these sound great together.

Oakland or Oaklen could work better than [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], and [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] could be the nickname.

[name_u]Parker[/name_u], Parkland, [name_m]Ryland[/name_m], or [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. Someone mentioned [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] I believe, and I love it.

[name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], Augustan, [name_u]Ashton[/name_u], Ashford, hopefully one of these you like or leads you to something.

Something with [name_u]Ever[/name_u] in it to symbolize evergreen trees, like [name_u]Everest[/name_u], [name_u]Everett[/name_u], or is there any place name you like or a place that means something to both of you?

A favorite animal or color or plant??

So far you’ve suggested some of the best I’ve heard. Oakland sounds really cool. I think the trouble will be convincing my husband. I have this issue with envying others who are “brave” enough to use names like this but I worry I’m never able to. That’s silly and I know it!

We both like [name_u]Everett[/name_u], but know a neighbor kid who is so bad who is named that! It really ruined it for us. I like the idea of [name_u]Everest[/name_u].

[name_m]Favorite[/name_m] color is [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] and thus I tried to convince my entire family it could be a decent boy’s name, but I get weird stares and I realize it can be perceived as rather girly. And, my husband definitely doesn’t like it, and I want him to be just as behind the name as I am. With that said I can sway him a bit on certain names

I love the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], which no one has suggested, but wonder if it’s too popular or perceived as a “dorky” name - which is also what my hubby thinks. He also knew a kid of that name that he didn’t like.

If it helps, we’re planning on having the middle name be [name_m]William[/name_m], although that’s not set in stone either. It’s a name we like and my father’s as well, and I was hoping it would help stabilize a less common first name.

Phew… this is a toughie! You are all amazing and have such great suggestions!

I like …

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] ([name_m]Abe[/name_m])
[name_u]August[/name_u] ([name_u]Gus[/name_u] or Auggie)
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
Lorenzo (Enzo)

They are more calm and sweet than nature. =]

What about [name_u]Robin[/name_u]? It seems to fit the sweet and nature-based criteria. I realize it is seen as unisex, so I don’t know how you feel about that. I love [name_u]Robin[/name_u]! We discussed using it for our DS, but ultimately went a different direction.

Also, regarding the popularity of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]… I don’t know the exact numbers, but I personally know of three baby Olivers born in the last couple years. Also an [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and we all know what’s happened to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

For what it’s worth, I believe [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is the next [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. I know of two Everetts born in the last year, and have two other girl friends who are dying to use it! I think we will see [name_u]Everett[/name_u] sky rocket in the next few years. ([name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know how much popularity matters to you, but that’s just my two cents.)

I agree with you. Popularity does matter to me - I definitely don’t want my son to be one of many in his classroom. At the same time, I don’t want to to crazy with names either just to be unique. It’s a hard balance! When we named our son, it was before [name_u]Finn[/name_u] became super popular - and we were worried it’d be too common, but luckily I’ve never met another [name_u]Finn[/name_u] in our town so we’re still okay (whew)!

[name_u]Robin[/name_u] is probably too feminine, although that’s exactly what I’m going for. I’ve considered [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] for the same reasons but as I’m sure you guessed, my husband wouldn’t even consider that thought :).

I’ve heard of “[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]” being used - since it pays a little homage to wilderness, etc - I like it, but I’m not so sure about a nickname for that.

Previous poster listed “[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]” and I do like this… not 100% but it sounds nice to me. I feel like I’m a tough cookie to please  - but it’ll all be worth it when this sweet boy is born and has a great name thanks to all of you!

[name_u]Reed[/name_u]/[name_u]Reid[/name_u] was the first name to come to mind. Other ideas:

[name_u]Jay[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_u]Finch[/name_u]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u]/[name_m]Grayson[/name_m]
[name_m]Cliff[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m]
[name_m]Hart[/name_m]

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]! I also think it seems nature based. You and I might be kindred spirits… [name_f]My[/name_f] beloved boxer’s name is [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] and I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] nature names! ([name_m]Raphael[/name_m]'s name was going to be [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] if he had been a girl!) Can’t wait to see what you end up deciding on!

I was also going to suggest [name_u]Finch[/name_u] and perhaps [name_m]Ridge[/name_m].

Has [name_m]Roman[/name_m] been suggested yet? It’s not really naturey, but it is a place name! Sorry for repeats!

[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m]
[name_u]Rex[/name_u]
[name_u]Gray[/name_u]
[name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_u]Barry[/name_u]
[name_u]Glenn[/name_u]
[name_m]Birch[/name_m]
[name_u]Cyan[/name_u]
[name_u]Blue[/name_u]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]
[name_m]Brooks[/name_m]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_u]Eban[/name_u]
[name_m]Fox[/name_m]
[name_u]Green[/name_u]
[name_m]Hill[/name_m]
[name_u]Jay[/name_u]
[name_m]Jett[/name_m]

Good luck!

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is great! Not the end of the world if he doesn’t have a nickname, though [name_m]Wild[/name_m] would be cute

I know you are thinking of the middle name [name_m]William[/name_m], but [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] could always be [name_m]Will[/name_m].

[name_m]Stone[/name_m]? [name_u]Bay[/name_u]? [name_m]Pine[/name_m]? Sorry maybe too earthy but I think if the name were manly enough your husband might go along

[name_m]Just[/name_m] skimmed through the posts so might be some repeats!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions of [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_m]Leif[/name_m], [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m].

Calyx – NN [name_u]Cal[/name_u]. A little out of the box. [name_f]Flower[/name_f] part.
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] – “dove”
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] – also “dove”
[name_m]Shep[/name_m] – has a sweet humbleness.
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] – “wood/forest”
[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] – “awakening”
[name_m]Lennox[/name_m] – “elm grove”
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] – “barberry Tree”
[name_u]Channing[/name_u] – “wolf cub”
