Hey again ! Heh I know I’ve been on here a zillion times for the name Sylas. But I’ve been thinking Sylas Briar recently. I know Briar has been leaning more feminine as of late. But is it masculine enough with Sylas as a first name. Thanks everyone in advance for your opinions and suggestions !
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Briar[/name_u]! [name_u]Briar[/name_u] is pretty gender neutral to me, but I’m not crazy about it with [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] because they both have a long i sound in the first syllable. Feels totally masculine tho!
I have been a long-time fan of [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] and I think it sounds great with [name_u]Briar[/name_u]. I especially like this pairing with [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] spelled this way (I’m more familiar with Silas). Very masculine, strong, and timeless.
We’re a Y family lol. I don’t want go out of my way to make sure all our kids have y’s but i like it haha. I’m [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] with a y and my husbands [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] with a y. So we named our daughter [name_f]Myla[/name_f]
[name_u]Briar[/name_u] has always been masculine to me.
[name_m]Sylas[/name_m] [name_u]Briar[/name_u] is bright and sweet
I don’t know anyone named [name_u]Briar[/name_u] so it feels gender neutral to me. [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] [name_u]Briar[/name_u] sounds great, even a little beardy and rugged which is probably not what you’re envisaging for a baby boy but what I am saying is that I don’t get any feminine imagery from [name_u]Briar[/name_u] or the combo!!
[name_m]Sylas[/name_m] [name_u]Briar[/name_u] is nice! I’m not a huge fan of the repeating ‘eye’ sounds but I like its spunky feel
Lol, that is so cute! I love how you have that little theme. If it means anything, I think [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] is adorable looking.
[name_m]Sylas[/name_m] definitely feels masculine! [name_f]My[/name_f] baby was going to be [name_u]Briar[/name_u] regardless of gender, but [name_u]Briar[/name_u] went to stay with [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] before they were born, so I never found out the gender. Therefore, [name_u]Briar[/name_u] feels incredibly gender neutral to me! It doesn’t lean either way in my opinion.
I think it sounds masculine enough. If you wanted a different spelling, you could always go for [name_f]Bryher[/name_f] after the island. It has a y in for you! I think people will automatically spell [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] as [name_m]Silas[/name_m], but providing you’re ok with correcting them, I can’t see a problem.
I really like this combo. Very handsome.
It’s a nice combo but I prefer the expected [name_m]Silas[/name_m] spelling as I think the [name_m]Sylas[/name_m] spelling will set him up for always having to spell it out or say “Silas with a y” which may become tiring. I also think that traditional boys names spelled with a Y tend to lean feminine as that is how many parents spell common boys names, for a girl. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to think about as these things would be more important to me than matching family.
