Sylva or Sylvi?

[name_f]Sylva[/name_f] has been on my list for a while now. I love the connection to the forest and the sleek sound. I feel like it goes well with my girls’ names, [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. In the forums I often get the comment that it will be mistaken for [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. I’m not too concerned about that. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] and when people just glance at it they often call me “Carolyn”. Plus I always have to spell my first and last name for people. It’s not a big deal and I definitely wouldn’t change my name because of it. I am, however, slightly concerned about it sounding like “silver”. I like the idea of [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but when I say it out loud it sounds a lot like “silver rose”. So I started looking at [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f]. I greatly prefer this spelling. To me [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] is a bit more playful than [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. Thoughts on these names and which do you prefer?

Your daughters have such beautiful names! :two_hearts:

Though they’re both such beautiful names, I personally prefer [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] over [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. I agree that it feels a bit more playful and cutesy than the mysterious and smooth [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. (I have a big soft spot for cutesy girl names )

That said, I think [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] fits with [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] better than [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] does. They all have a slightly mysterious, nature-y feel to them. I wouldn’t really worry about her full name sounding like ‘silver rose’, because if people assume her name is silver, she can always correct them, but here are some other options you may like:
[name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]

You could also just use [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Sylva[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] is adorable!

I like [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] best - I like the fact it sounds like [name_u]Silver[/name_u] and how it feels both woodsy and sharp and cool!

@ckabye and @Greyblue thanks for the replies! I think I prefer [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] too. I just struggle with the middle name. [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would actually be the NN. I like that [name_f]Sylvi[/name_f] could be a NN as well since Arwen’s NN is Arwe and Raven’s is Ravy. I would like for [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] to have 2 middles, one a variant of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and the other a variant of [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I have [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and as my top combo with [name_f]Sylva[/name_f], but I’m not in love with it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] y’all think [name_f]Sylva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] would work? Is too many names since [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] could technically be said to be 2 in 1? [name_f]Rose[/name_f] has been one of my favorite names since I was like 5. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] was my grandma’s name. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] honors my mom, sister, other grandma, 2 aunts and me who all have variants of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] in our names somewhere. I appreciate y’all’s thoughts!

Sylva Rosemary Kate is gorgeous! Earthy and sleek, with a hint of ruggedness and vintage thrown in. I associate Rosemary with the plant and it rolls so easily off the tongue that it doesn’t feel like too much imo - especially not with the concise feel of Sylva and Kate. Sylva Rosemarie Kate might feel like a lot, or even Sylva Rosemary Katherine, but Sylva Rosemary Kate feels balanced

@ckabye and @Greyblue thanks so much! It’s a combo that’s been in the back of my head for a while now, but I kept telling myself it was too many names. I’m glad y’all don’t think that!

I forgot to mention that [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is also an honor name for my husband’s great grandmother, but honestly that’s just a happy addition to my love for the name.
