Sylvie, Eloise, or Clara

Please help I can’t decide between the 3 of them and the due date is before April!

What is your imagery for Sylvie, Eloise, and Clara?

Sylvie:

Summary

I like it because somehow it reminiscent me of sliver and winter, however worry that it is too nick-name-ish. It’s odd but I do NOT like Sylvia, it bothers me how Sylvie is closely connected to Sylvia.

Eloise:

Summary

I am really obsess with literary vibe names, that one big thing why I was into Eloise. I also like its nicknames Elo and Elle.
However, when it combines with last name it becomes EZ which sounds like “easy” and i don’t like that. It also seems to have a strong connection to extrovert and naughty Plaza girl, but I want a name that sounded more introvert and quiet.

Clara (pronounce like Brits):

Summary

also has a literal vibe. And i LOVE the meaning. I enjoy its simplicity in spelling(compare to Eloise).
I am not bother but the vintage feel but I worry if it feels too “button up” (old and reserve). Also it doesn’t seems to have good nickname choices considering i do NOT like Claire.

You can say any thing to help!
Imagery and name impression could all help!

Of these, I would pick [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for you.

These are all great names! Personally based on what you said I would choose [name_f]Clara[/name_f] for you.
I think people might assume that [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] was short for [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. And not liking the initials for [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is a problem.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] gives me a mental image of a sweet rosy cheeked brown haired little girl, in a velvet coat on a snowy day. Nutcracker, fancy, literary, and vintage vibes. I envision an older [name_f]Clara[/name_f] being elegant, smart and sophisticated. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the name!
Best wishes!

Thanks! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you want to elaborate on the reason for that?

Thank you!
I love your description for Clara’s vibe! It seems like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] has a pretty strong connection to the Nutcracker? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is a wintery name or a more spring-ish name?

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] → sleek, sophisticated and stylish, but with a bit of sparkle and sass too. It doesn’t seem nickname-y to me and it feels like it stands separate from [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] - but - if it feels too close to [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] for you, then I’d strike it out :person_shrugging:

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] → this has warmth and sophistication, and feels both gentle and cheerful. Elo and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] are sweet. If it helps, I’ve met a few Eloises, and it suits an introverted/quiet girl just fine

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] → bright, clear and sweet, but versatile too - pretty but not fussy, smart but tough. It doesn’t feel buttoned up to me - I mean, it could, with certain middles, or on some people, but it doesn’t have to be.
Nicknames could be [name_f]Cece[/name_f]? [name_f]Clary[/name_f]?

For [name_f]Clara[/name_f] what about [name_f]Clary[/name_f] or [name_f]Lara[/name_f] for a nickname or are those big no nos? I’m exactly like you where I dislike [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but love [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I think it’s overall classic and loved. I definitely see it as a youthful name that’s timeless and will never go out of style. If you used [name_f]Clary[/name_f] or [name_f]Lara[/name_f] for a nickname I think that will help it feel more modern maybe too. But honestly it doesn’t even need a nickname. And none of the Claras I know go by anything other than [name_f]Clara[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] as well. I don’t see it as a party girl name but more as the girl next door sort of name where she’s loved by everyone and just super sweet and not fake. I also love Elo as a nickname because I’ve never heard of that for it and it’s my new fave!

Out of all of them [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is the only one I picture as an older lady and isn’t my style. But I also don’t like [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] either so I get that

I definitely think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] or [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] would be great! I love love love them both! If you want a name with nicknames I’d go with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] but if you want to only call her by her name then go with [name_f]Clara[/name_f]!

Also for [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] if you put a middle name that doesn’t start with a vowel I think it’s fine! Plus I read it as EZed or Ease rather than EZ but I’m Canadian do that plays a factor

Think of it like a little [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] will bring Ease and Calmness to your family (I know babies are chaotic and not quiet so maybe not the best advice) but that outlook might also help with the initials

Thanks! I love your descriptions as always.
I do also feel like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is sleek and even has a bit a [name_m]French[/name_m] chic, but the funny thing is that [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is actually considered dated in [name_f]France[/name_f]. So i guess yea, I’ll eliminate this one.

I’m glad that [name_f]Clara[/name_f] doesn’t feel buttoned up to you. and I do like [name_f]Clary[/name_f]! I don’t have plan to go by anything, but [name_f]Clary[/name_f] could be fun to use between friends.

For [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] would you describe them as a more spring vibe name or winter vibe name?

I am not interested in [name_f]Lara[/name_f] but i do like [name_f]Clary[/name_f]! I’m not planning to go by anything but [name_f]Clary[/name_f] could be fun to use between friends. And I am glad that you see [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as a youthful name!

Your description for Eloise’s image is really vivid, I can image a sweet and welcoming neighbour girl. Does [name_f]Clara[/name_f] also feel like a girl-next-door to you?

Finally, yes I am kinda eliminating [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and still hesitating between [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

Thanks! That’s actually something I never thought about!
However because we are asian so we don’t really have a middle name.
But the EZ initial won’t have that much influence on the decision tho, just like Clara’s nickname choices.

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] definitely has the same vibe of being the girl next door and I would say it’s more of a quiet and introverted name to me than [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is

Hmm, could be either. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] feels like it could be either - the light, clear meaning gives it bright spring morning vibes, but it also has that crisp, Christmassy-ballet feel. I guess it would depend on either the middle or person who’s wearing it.

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] feels more spring like to me - warm and sunny - I think that ‘healthy / wide’ meaning helps - like wide open meadows, health, life and possibility.

ok thanks!

Based on your descriptions and points of view of the three names, I would go with Eloise!

Sylvie is gorgeous! I associate it with the color green. It’s gentle but unexpected. I can definitely see Sylvie as a full name. However, if you really dislike Sylvia and Sylvie’s association with it, I don’t believe it is the perfect name for your baby.

Eloise is bright, radiant and sophisticated. Elo and Elle are adorable nicknames. I don’t necessarily associate it with an extrovert personality, but there’s nothing wrong about it. I would like to add that the name won’t change your daughter’s personality! I imagine Eloise to be a friendly and charismatic person. Someone sweet and delicate.

Clara is my favorite name from your list. It’s timeless and international. It’s melodic and gorgeous. Easy to spell and with a very sweet pronounciation. Clay, C, Cara, Cici, Lala, and Clo are nice nicknames for Clara.
I would like to warn you that Clara means “clear, bright” in some latin languages. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if it fits someone with Asian heritage. It’s frequent to see women named Bianca that don’t have a light skin color tone or women named Melanie that don’t have a dark skin color tone, for example. However, that always intrigues me.

I would like to suggest Elara, Elodie, Clarisse or Clarissa, Cecilia and Serena!

All great choices. I do not like [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] either so therefore have never really thought about [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. But as a totally separate name it is nice. I do like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but prefer [name_f]Claire[/name_f] much more vibrant and fun. Since you do not care for [name_f]Claire[/name_f] I would not do [name_f]Clara[/name_f] because I feel she would get called Clare/Claire at some point. I would go with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. It’s a beautiful name and fits a girl from young to old. I don’t find the spelling a problem. I love the nn choices.

That makes sense to me a lot! I love the way you describe vibes!
Now I do feel like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is warmer than [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I do prefer wintery names than spring names so I will take that in to my consideration! Thanks!

Thank you, that was really detail respond!

For [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], yes you guys have persuaded me, I’ve decided to eliminate it.

I love your description for [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! “bright, sweet, and delicate” summarizes its vibe so well.

Your nickname suggestion for [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is inspiring! I feel like [name_m]Clay[/name_m], C and [name_f]Clo[/name_f] can be really fun to use between friends.

I am fully aware of Clara’s roots in Latin, however am not bothered by that since I believe as long as a name doesn’t have strong cultural or religion connection (especially considering [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is rather international), any one with any skin color or biological trait could wear it. I also don’t think people will make judgements on that, but thanks for reminding!

I do also find it interesting when a person’s name contradict with their biological traits (e.g. someone with light hair uses a name that means “dark hair”). But thats just a fun little contradictory that would lead to criticism.

I do enjoy your name suggestions as well. However the list is already narrowed and I don’t have the plan of expending it. But thanks anyways!

Thanks! I’ll note that done.

You’re totally right! [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is a wonderful international name. I love the meaning of names but most people are not familiar with them and don’t really care about that aspect. I just thought you would like to consider that aspect. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] can also be associated with lights.
I actually think it’s fun when someone named [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is born in [name_f]November[/name_f], in the Northern Hemisphere, or when someone named [name_m]August[/name_m] is born in [name_f]January[/name_f], for example.

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] are lovely! Whatever you decide, it will be a wonderful choice.

Good luck! :four_leaf_clover:
