Thinking about [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for my first daughter. Is it too much of a nickname name?

Thinking about [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for my first daughter. Is it too much of a nickname name?
[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!
It feels a bit too trendy to me. I hadn’t heard it until a few years ago, so I prefer [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. But that could just be where I live (US).
I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], it’s one of my favourite names. I don’t think it’s too trendy or too much of a nickname. Personally, I think it’s spunky and fun but I can see it on all ages.
Since [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is technically the [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], and not a nickname, I think it feels complete as is. I love the name; to me it is softer, more whimsical and less dated than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] isn’t a nickname, it’s a name. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] is a different version of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is lovely & not a nickname at all!
I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. And agree with pps - it’s not a nickname at all but a different version of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] - and much nicer and fresher [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is its own name and a beautiful one. It feels light and carefree and a bit magical.
I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]! She’s fun, playful, feisty, and energetic but with a hint of sophistication and charm. I definitely think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]'s fine as a full name. She has a separate personality and feel than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and other Sylv- names to me, so I think she works on her own.
I really like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and agree with @araminty that it feels fresher than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]! I don’t think it’s nicknamey or trendy. I think it’s cute and spunky. So much better than the drabness of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f].
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it. It is a complete name on it’s own.
I don’t think it’s too trendy now, but I think there’s a chance it will become more so (like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]).
My daughter is named [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]! I had some of the same concerns as you, but we loved it so much we chose it anyway. She gets called [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] from time to time and some people are genuinely confused when I say “no, it’s just [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]” or “it’s [name_m]French[/name_m]” or whatever. But for the most part, I get a lot of compliments on her name. It doesn’t bother me if it sounds like a nickname (even though it’s not), I happen to like those types of names (and they are very popular in the UK). I hope she grows up to love her name as much as I do. I say use it!
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is currently at the top of my list, if I ever have a baby girl. I may never get to use it. So, it would make me happy to hear of another [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is a full name, it’s the [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. Besides there is absolutely nothing wrong with nickname names. I personally prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] feels friendly and approachable.
I love it!
I adore both [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. It doesn’t seem trendy at all to me (it’s not even in the top 1000, I don’t think.) I think that [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] ages very well and is such a cute name. Go for it!
I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]; to me it has a very chic air about the name. I do prefer the spelling of [name_f]Silvie[/name_f], but that’s just me.
I really like it. I never paid much attention to it before [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Brett[/name_u] on Chicago [name_m]Fire[/name_m] (the only [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]'s I knew were grandparent-age, so I just associated it with a few generations older than me) but it feels so fresh right now. It’s sweet and dainty.
Thank you so much everybody!! I feel 110% better about [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and I definitely plan on using it!
