[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is a perfectly legitimate full name - it’s the [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. So go for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] on the birth certificate if that’s what you prefer!

I like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_m]Lynx[/name_m]. It has a lovely sound and feel to it.

I usually prefer the name being used going on the birth certificate, and in this case I think [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] give off different vibes as well, so I would go with [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] as her full name.

[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is my favourite combo, great flow and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is awesome, but [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] I think sounds best with [name_m]Lynx[/name_m].

I kind of had the same problem (but for a fictitious baby, long story) and chose [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (who pretty much exclusively goes by [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]) because it flows better with the surname. If [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] sounds much better with middles/surname I would maybe make an exception.

Also your son’s name is wonderful, and I love [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], especially the latter right now.

I’m strongly in the [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] camp on this one. To me [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] just sounds more substantial, and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is the natural nickname anyway. I’m in the minority about this on Nameberry though, it seems :).

I totally agree with this! [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] is great. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is the natural nickname, and [name_f]Via[/name_f] is another fabulous option for your daughter to consider. [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is really an amazing combo.

I am a [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f], and I go by [name_f]Katie[/name_f] almost all the time. I always have. But I love and appreciate having [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f] as a different, slightly more formal option. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is pretty, but there is absolutely no problem with putting [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] on the birth certificate & then calling her [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] :slight_smile:

Thanks for all the great replies, you’ve all really helped add to the discussion between my husband and I. Still really on the fence about the middle, I think I like them both equally.

I actually hadn’t considered the nn [name_f]Via[/name_f], I really like it! Definitely something to think about.

I voted [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] before reading your post. Name her [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] if that’s what she will be called.
