Sylvie with nickname Evie & middle name help. Please! Stressed woman here!

I am British, Husband is Brazilian, baby will be born and raised in [name]America[/name]. We have been researching names for nearly 2 years and still only have a few names that we both love. It’s difficult being from such different cultures to agree on what is a beautiful name. I’m drained, and don’t have too much longer.

My Husband adores the name [name]Evie[/name], as do I, but I cannot use it as a full name. For me it is STRICTLY nickname only. I trawled through all the names that [name]Evie[/name] could be a nickname for, and hate them all. Me and my sister both have French names, and whilst googling French names I stumbled upon [name]Sylvie[/name]. I fell in love with it immediately, and my Husband loves it too. The only problem is our attachment to the name [name]Evie[/name]. Is [name]Evie[/name] an acceptable nickname for [name]Sylvie[/name], or are we pushing it?!

Also, honest opinions on middle names for [name]Sylvie[/name] would be really helpful because when it comes to this “flow” I see you all discuss I just don’t have the ear for it! I can’t tell what does flow and what doesn’t.

I would like her to have 2 middle names, but any combinations you like the sound of I’d like to hear, even if it’s just 1 middle.

Middle name options - [name]Alice[/name] (mum’s middle name) - [name]Emiliana[/name] - [name]Isabel[/name] (put off by chav overuse but still love it) - [name]Arabella[/name] - [name]Arabel[/name] - [name]Penelope[/name] - [name]Nadine[/name] (sister’s name) Totally open to any of your added suggestions, also.

Oh, and our last name is 2 syllables.

Thank you in advance, I realise this is a bit of a long one…

[name]Sylvie[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] doesn’t make any sense. The two names are completely unrelated, and [name]Evie[/name] isn’t any shorter than [name]Sylvie[/name]. It gives me the impression that you couldn’t choose between [name]Sylvie[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] so you decided to call her by both. Flow isn’t very important to me, and I don’t think you should worry too much about it. It’s just a preference.

[name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Arabella[/name] [name]Nadine[/name] or [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Alice[/name] would be gorgeous.

[name]Sylvie[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] is too much of a stretch to me.

[name]Evie[/name] to me is said like the letters E.V., so if you wanted to call her [name]Evie[/name] why not give her those initials? You’ve got [name]Emiliana[/name] on your mn list, if you’re open to that (or variants of it) as a first name with a V middle name:

[name]Emiliana[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Emilia[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] (or [name]Vivienne[/name] if you want the French version)
[name]Emily[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]

etc, and you could use [name]Sylvie[/name] as the second middle as well which gives you the option of using it at a later date.

[name]Sylvie[/name] already is a nn.

I think it’s a stretch, sorry. [name]Ever[/name] thought about Evana though? It has a French feel to it, and nn [name]Evie[/name] works well. Also, [name]Vivienne[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] works too. At least to me it does.
For [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Rosanna[/name] would be a good mn in my opinion because for some reason [name]Rosanna[/name] has a Spanish feel to it. As far as Evana goes, i know it sounds bland, but I like [name]Maria[/name] for a mn. Again, incorporates the Brazilian lineage in your family.

Congratulations on your soon-to-be baby girl! Sadly, [name]Evie[/name] is too much of a stretch from [name]Sylvie[/name] to be a nickname. Have you considered naming her [name]Eve[/name] and calling her [name]Evie[/name]? [name]Eve[/name] is gloriously sleek, modern, and historical all at the same time. I would consider naming a future daughter [name]Sylvia[/name] and nicknaming her [name]Sylvie[/name]. I think it’s important to go ahead and name this daughter [name]Eve[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] because it means more to your husband than [name]Sylvie[/name] means to both of you, even though you both like [name]Evie[/name] AND you both like [name]Sylvie[/name].

My suggestion is naming this daughter [name]Eve[/name] [name]Emiliana[/name] and calling her [name]Evie[/name]. The alliteration of [name]Eve[/name] [name]Emiliana[/name] is distinctive and sophisticated.

I would name a second daughter [name]Sylvia[/name] [name]Alice[/name] and calling her [name]Sylvie[/name].

[name]Evie[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name] would be a fabulous sibset!

I also think [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Evie[/name] is too much of a stretch… They both end vie and [name]Evie[/name] only has the one letter in front, so they are almost too similar and like others have said, it feels like you couldn’t choose between the two so decided to have them both.

[name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Nadine[/name] works I think

I agree with the others. I just don’t see any connection between [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name].

You said you had considered other names to get to [name]Evie[/name]–I’m assuming [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], etc. Have you considered [name]Genevieve[/name]? It’s also French and St. [name]Genevieve[/name] is the patron saint of [name]Paris[/name]. There’s a nice ‘[name]Eve[/name]’ at the end that subtly connects it to [name]Evie[/name]. Sorry if it’s already been crossed off the list; it was the first thing that came to mind.

Thanks everyone, I thought it was a stretch. I love some of the ideas, though.

[name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Arabella[/name] [name]Nadine[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Alice[/name] are beautiful - I’d have a hard time choosing which of those I prefer. [name]Vivienne[/name] had been a contender before, I loved it, but my mum’s reaction put me well off!

You’ve all given me some new ideas to think about. Except rkrd… [name]Sylvie[/name] IS a name in its own right, it is the french form of [name]Sylvia[/name], but thanks for your help…
