Synesthesia

So I’ve been noticing lately that all my favorite girl names start with A. I’ve always associated names with colors but all of these A names I’ve been loving are and indigo color and I love this color. Does anyone else with synesthesia also gravitate towards names of certain color?

ooh someone with synesthesia! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time someone has posted a topic asking “What letters do you love or hate?” I always feel like I have to edit my responses and not talk about the colors of letters because people will think I’m insane. Now I’m just interested to see if any others have synesthesia (I actually have two, grapheme and spatial). Although for some reason my grapheme isn’t complete. Some letters and numbers are just oddly grey and blank for me.

I mostly gravitate away from names of certain colors. Ps are a really ugly yellow color (like the color of infections) and Us are a disgusting sludgy brown. I just can’t even with any name that starts with P or U. Bs are kind of an iffy color…they’re a greenish shade, but sometimes I can’t decide if I like the shade or not. It’s got a grey tinge to it, like it’s almost moldy. I usually steer clear of B names. But only if the names start with these letters. The color of the first letter is a lot stronger than the color of the other letters.

And I REALLY gravitate to C, E, A and T. Cs are this really awesome mix of aquamarine and seafoam. Really pastel and beachy. It’s beautiful. I think that’s why I have 33 C names between my boy and girl lists. E is a really fresh, bright, summery green. Like fresh grass or a ripe kiwi. I have almost as many E names on my lists as I do C names. A is kind of a hot coral shade. And T is a really vivid lavender/indigo that kind of shimmers.

I also kind of assign gender to names based on their colors. Like…[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is more of a feminine name to me, even though it’s a boys name, because the A is such a bright, “girly” color, and [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is slightly masculine, even though it’s a girl’s name, because W is a really deep, murky navy blue.

YES! In fact there are some names I don’t generally like that I have started liking because of the color association or the way the name “looks”. I gravitate more towards names with A’s and E’s somewhere in them, they seem so light and green or pinkish-- I love [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] so much, but it looks somehow heavier than I’d like, seems so dark in color. I loooove [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], but that M seems so dark as well. The M’s are hard for me to overcome! I’ve loved [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m] forever, but because it was yellow in my mind I couldn’t overcome that. Often I have to write a name down in a document in a color I like to see names written in to force my brain to draw a new path. That’s how I came to love [name_m]Miller[/name_m]. Weird.

It happens to me too! I’ve noticed that I like A LOT of names with A, E, M, L and generally I prefer names which have a stronger, more vivid color.
I love a lot of strong, deep blue or orange names.

I gravitate towards E names because they’re green. I find them calming and solid.

I see colors in sounds- chromesthesia. [name_f]My[/name_f] own name, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], is a deep green. I tend to go for names (as well as music) with a cooler color (blues, greens, purples.) This is very important to me, especially when making combos.

For example, [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is a classic, strong name, but it’s too girly for me, since [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is pink and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is purple.

I tend to gravitate towards L’s and 'E’s. That might be the reason for my obsession with ‘[name_f]El[/name_f]’ names- I can never decide whether I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] better! [name_f]My[/name_f] own name, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], which I love, is a deep green.

I love names with Ks and Xs because they’re bright, bright blue, and names with Vs and Ms because they’re velvety purple.

I have number form and spatial sequence synaesthesia. I see numbers laid out in a track-like structure on a board game as well as time, including historical time, months of the year, and times of the day. It’s hard to explain. I think of things in a spatial way and most things I remember I will associate/see as a place or as a spot on one of my time tracks.

For example my year is a circular track if I zoom out. However not all months have equal size, they are bigger the more things I associate them and the size of sections of the circle will vary depending on whether I’m thinking of the year 1998, 2004, 2010 etc depending on what happened in those years. If I zoom in close to look at individual days in my year they form a winding track with corners where the day-squares move in sequence. Days are always squares or blocks.

I actually thought everyone saw time and numbers this way until a few years ago when I started doing calculus at college. I was really good at maths until that point but struggled with calculus because I couldn’t see it on my track. When I explained this to my teacher, she thought I was nuts!

Privacy editing

I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes names based on their color. I agree the color of the first letter overpowers the other letters. Charlieandperry I can’t see [name_u]December[/name_u] and [name_u]January[/name_u] away from each. To me dates are on a price is right type wheel. It’s great to hear about other peoples synesthesia
