Synesthesia?

Just read a wonderful thread about the tastes of names.

My bet would be that many nameberries and name-lovers in general are synesthetes, if that is a word. I know I am, have been my whole life.

To me, [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is green and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is pink and red roses are [name_m]Mozart[/name_m] and a man I used to know is velvet and [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m] is hot chocolate.

Curious to hear how many of you instinctively process things this way?

I wouldn’t say that I am naturally a synesthetic, but I have come to associate many names with colors by thinking about it a lot! Here are my favorite names as colors:
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - light purple
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - pastel pink
[name_f]Anya[/name_f] - maroon
[name_u]Marie[/name_u] - forest green
[name_u]June[/name_u] - pale purple
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - powder blue and white
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] - moss green
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] - pale yellow
[name_f]April[/name_f] - pale yellows and pinks
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - white

[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - dark green
[name_u]August[/name_u] - brick red
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m] - mustard yellow
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] - spring green and yellow
[name_u]Timothy[/name_u] - moss green
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] - earthy greens and browns
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] - dark green
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] - dark blues
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] - sunshine yellow
[name_u]Levi[/name_u] - forest green

I just randomly tend to associate names with colors.

Two big ones are [name_f]Colleen[/name_f]-green and [name_m]Jason[/name_m]-red.

I associate names with colors, feelings, and imagery. I don’t actually see the colors on the names but it is a connection my mind makes. Colors/feelings/imagery definitely contribute to the names I choose.

I believe this is a slightly different form of synesthesia, but I associate letters (and numbers, for that matter) as being distinctively gendered. For example, letters like “O”, “P”, and “H” are 100% “boy letters” to me, therefore feminine names such as OPHelia do not appeal to me because I can’t get over the “masculinity” of the letters.

Wow. I never thought of letters as being male or female. But I am drawn to so many D names for boys and G names for girls and R names for boys, so maybe there’s something like that going on with me too!

I have visual and auditory synesthesia. I think I make the association between certain monosyllabic sounds and colors. [name_f]Christine[/name_f] and [name_u]Konstantin[/name_u] are both dark green, and they both have the “k” and “teen” sounds.

Most of my favorite names happen to be orange!
