I have synesthesia where I associate letters and words with things, most often a color or collection of colors, but sometimes also smells or textures. I thought it would be fun to post here:
Tell me a name (yours, one you like, whatever) and I can tell you what I associate with it. Or, if you want, you could give me a color scheme and I’ll respond with a name that matches it according to my synesthesia!
Edit: Wanna add that I’m ok with more than one name per comment and more than one comment per user! I have a lot of spare time on my hands for a while and I like talking about this stuff, though I might break my responses into chunks if this gets a lot of comments.
@angelastella5 [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is a sort of pale yellow-green and pastel pink color! It has a lot of varying shades of yellowy greens and light pinks in it, like a tulip in direct sunlight.
@TheTempest171 [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] to me is mostly a dark purple/blue/indigo swirl with flecks of gold-orange, almost like the [name_f]Starry[/name_f] [name_u]Night[/name_u] painting. It feels smooth, cold, heavy, and firm like a polished stone paperweight.
oh, this is so sweet of you! I love this so much!!
I’d love to see what you think of these (only if you dont mind🥰):
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (my niece)
[name_u]Ash[/name_u] (me!) [or ashley if that’s easier]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] (sorry [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is already colorful, I hope that’s okay!!)
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] “Theo”
feel free to do just firsts/middles if that’s easier, or pick and choose whichever you want to do in general!!
I have this as well! One of the most colorful names for me is [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f], as well as [name_f]Ivonne[/name_f]. What do you see for those?
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] - This name is a variety of colors that remain distinct instead of blending together, but most prominently I see a sort of medium-toned cool green, primary red, and a calm, slightly desaturated cornflower blue. It kinda reminds me of those wooden alphabet blocks.
[name_m]Hershel[/name_m] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] - A lot mellower and softer with less variety in color. In places it feels and looks like worn linen, softened and faintly yellow in a pleasant and familiar way. I also see a friendly muted brown and shades of sepia, with hints of pristine white.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - funnily enough, it does look a bit like the northern lights, though not exactly. I get a lot of soft pinks and light indigo-purples with a texture like wispy clouds, and shades of warm but mellow reds, oranges, and golden yellows. It’s like a sunset!
[name_u]Ash[/name_u] - Much simpler as it’s a shorter name. [name_u]Red[/name_u] from A, pink from S, yellow from H, but really blended together nicely. It looks like a tropical cotton candy flavor (mango guava?), texture and all.
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] - Pretty name! [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], ironically, kind of has the color of a darker garnet stone. Deep reddish-purple, subtle and elegant. [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] is really interesting and I’ll try to explain why: E is kind of a dark grey on its own but next to other letters it tends to darken and mellow them. In [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], spelled the usual way, it brings down the bright red of the A in the middle and lets the other colors come through more. Without it, [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] is a bright, UV-reactive red-orange color!
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] - First let me just say that I adore this combo! [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a very sweet green color, kind of the color scheme of pistachio ice cream with a waffle cone? The ocean middle name adds touches of delicate sky blue and rays of crisp sunlight.
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] - The strong “K” at the beginning gives this name a very strong solid color, something like a heather or wisteria purple.
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] - One of my best friend’s names! A potent forest green with shades of grassy yellow and yellow-green, with a hint of lilac.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - I adore this name, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is a bold and firm red. It has a smooth texture very similar to the feeling of a glossy finish nail polish.
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u] - A similar color palette to [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], except without the lilac and with a few splashes of bright red. It’s kind of like [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] decorations? [name_u]Pine[/name_u] green, bright red, tinsel gold.
[name_f]Evaluna[/name_f] - I love the sound of this name! I mostly pick up medium-deep indigo and a bit of ethereal yellow, like an early evening sky, with some hints of muted dark green. “A” is a bright red letter to me but because of the pronunciation of the name and where the emphasis falls, I don’t get any from this name unless I focus on the individual letters.
[name_u]James[/name_u] - This name is mostly a kind of eggplant purple with some gradient to a red-violet, and a few scattered hints of a pale pink like the inside of a seashell. Names like this, whatever letters are in the strong opening syllable tend to override the rest.
[name_f]Arrietty[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name! [name_u]Red[/name_u] like a vintage wool sweater, that sort of comfy but not too soft texture, with a little bit of dandelion yellow and lighter flaxen beige. Feels like wearing a raincoat.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - A strong amber color with flecks of deep green in varying tones. Has a texture like walking through a wheat field.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - This name is very yellow, though not in a harsh way. Varying tones from a banana-ish shade to more of a cream color, with a pleasant splash of a rich, medium-tone green.
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] - Very dark colors here, a deep dark green is strongest, with a not insignificant amount of maroon and a very dark purple. That sounds like it would clash but it works, kinda the way it might go together in a plaid pattern. Feels like a thick wool flannel or coat.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - The first thing that jumps out at me is a rich honey color, looking deeper it slowly varies in shade, with some parts having a warmer, redder tone and others more golden. It has a pleasant, molasses-like movement to it.
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] - [name_u]Bright[/name_u] sky blue and white! Feels light and breezy. You know when people use airplanes to leave messages with their sky trails? That.
[name_m]Stellan[/name_m] - This name is very pink to me, like a salmon or mellower cerise shade. Not a whole ton of color variation aside from some streaks of darker pink that give it almost a polished wood grain look.
[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] - This does have a lot of different colors to it! I get a lot of sky blue, light pink, pale springtime greens, some white… it’s almost like looking at an opal stone or mother of pearl, but it’s all light colors and the blue is the most prominent, like a base color.
[name_f]Ivonne[/name_f] - I really like the way this name looks with my synesthesia, there’s not a lot of others like it. It has a lot of white, with a sort of medium-dark indigo that’s almost purple, and that very pigmented golden-orange-yellow color. It kinda looks like a modern art painting on a white canvas, with a lot of lines at different angles painted in the other two colors I described.
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] - A lot of colors here, mostly strong green, yellow-orange, and red. It’s hard to describe in words but search “African Abstract Series by Aldonia Bailey” and it’s pretty similar to that, though with a lot more green.
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] - These two names are pretty distinct to me so I’ll describe them separately. [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] is a lot of varied shades of red, orange, and yellow that shift around a lot, kinda like watching a campfire, but visually the texture is like it’s been painted onto linen. [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] is mainly a lavender color, with some distinct streaks of peony pink and green-yellow (like that one Crayola crayon). It has a few rounded lines in a way that reminds me of the “Life is Good” art style.
Haha not at all, don’t worry! I’m glad people are enjoying this!
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] Reisl - I’m not certain if these are meant to be paired as a combo or not, sorry! [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] is very red and very orange, with a lot of different shades that flow into each other while still varying pretty distinctly. Picture a deep red sunset with lots of thin clouds. Reisl is a lighter golden-yellow with pale pink, and paired with [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] it blends together to add some lighter yellow and pink hues into the sunset.
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] - Pretty cut and dry, bright red and bright orange! It’s kind of like a much less complex version of what [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] looks like, with some white speckles. I can’t quite place what it reminds me of right now but if I have an epiphany I’ll edit this!
