I’ve always been a huge lover of vintage/old fashioned names and I love the sound of [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] but I do have one question. I’m a big, big hockey fan and my boyfriend plays hockey; “hatty” is a slang term for a hat trick, would it be tacky or kind of cute to use [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]?
like it as a nickname.
Are there any other full names for [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] besides [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Henriette[/name_f]/[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]? I’m not a fan of the sound of them but I do agree that it would be a nice nickname!
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]'s one of my favorites, but if you’re not into it, maybe [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] would work, though Haddie makes more sense as a NN. Or [name_f]Heather[/name_f], but that could feel dated. Maybe [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], especially with middle names that start with T.
I don’t think it’s tacky, but if you’re worried about reactions maybe you could not bring up the hockey thing. You can confirm the connection if people ask, but don’t offer it yourself. Or, frame it how you did here: it fits with your old-fashioned style, you loved the name, and the connection to something you and your BF love was a bonus - a way to tie you all together.
I’ve always gotten a “trendy” feel from [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] which never sits well with me, not sure why! The idea of using a T middle name is really smart, but I’ve always seen myself using a family name for a middle name (like my mother’s name or when I’m married my mother-in-law’s name or something of that sort). That’s been an issue for me too; [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] does seem too much like a nickname but I can’t find anything that fits my style that would be used for a full name!
I think if you use [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] as a nn then it’s connection to hockey is rather fun - since you’re a fan. As a first I’d probably advise against it.
Besides [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] these are other H-t names I’ve come up with. Hopefully that helps:
[name_f]Hacinthia[/name_f] (or [name_f]Hyacintha[/name_f]), [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f], [name_f]Hortense[/name_f], [name_f]Hartleigh[/name_f] (this one feels a bit trendy to me but I think would be a nice fit). I think my favorites are [name_f]Hyacintha[/name_f] and [name_f]Hestia[/name_f].
There are more you can use NB’s super -searcher to look for names with certain letters in them. It might help.
I don’t really like any of those either; sorry! I’m super picky when it comes to names. To me, Hiacinthia/[name_f]Hyacinthia[/name_f], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_f]Hester[/name_f], and [name_f]Hortense[/name_f] don’t really sound appealing or pretty; I find [name_f]Heather[/name_f] to be a bit too dated for my taste & [name_f]Hartleigh[/name_f] is too trendy (I’m a huge lover of classic/vintage/old fashioned, I can’t really think of a trendy name that I like)
This one is rough. You could always use [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] as a MN, that would still give you the option of [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] as a NN.
Here are a few others I dug up out of the depths of nameberry:
[name_u]Harley[/name_u]
[name_f]Hallarie[/name_f]
[name_f]Haldisse[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_u]Havana[/name_u]
[name_f]Hadria[/name_f]
[name_f]Shadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Thadine[/name_f]
[name_f]Behati[/name_f]
oh and to answer your question, I don’t think it’s tacky at all! I think it’s cute. I play hockey myself and I have several hockey related names on my list! Lol
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] might work although the nickname is a stretch. It has the “t” sound.
