Not sure anyone watches it still, but So You Think You Can Dance has a new format with contestants no older than 14 and one of the girls is named Tahani. My research tells me it’s an Arabic/Islamic name meaning “Congratulations; best wishes.” Give me your thoughts. 
I love the meaning, but I can’t get away from the way it sounds. All I can think it Tahini 
(which is a cooking paste made from sesame)… Sorry…
What about Tani - it is Japanese and means ‘valley’ or ‘sweetness’?? Or Taani - which is the Hindi version - it is taken to mean “encouragement”??
Tahani is pretty and her meaning is awesome but I’m with MummaCat; my first thought was tahini paste, but that doesn’t make Tahani an immediate write-off for me. For instance, I still love the name [name_u]Nori[/name_u] even though my DH says it reminds him of seaweed ;).

I instantly thought of tahini too – which my Arabic speaking husbands pronounces “tahina”
I also thought of tahini paste, but agree it’s not a dealbreaker. I’d be more concerned that most people would hear it aloud as [name_f]Tawny[/name_f]. At least where I live, people have a hard time hearing the “H” sound in the middle of names and pronounce it almost like it’s silent.
Too close to Tahini.
Depends how you pronounce it and what your ethnicity is. If you name her a Middle-Eastern name but if you and your spouse are both British, American or from another predominantly white race, it might sound strange.
I think it sounds pretty. It doesn’t make me think of tahini… Well maybe on paper, but it sounds distinct enough. It’s very breezy and earthy sounding to me. I would have guessed Hawaiian, like [name_f]Leilani[/name_f], or African.
I know someone named Tahani, and she’s lovely. No one seems to have trouble saying her name. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name.
