SO has recently agreed to these suggestions of mine…the only problem is, I don’t love them. I’m finding it really hard to love names that I haven’t loved for years. I’m lucky that I’ve always adored [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_u]Percy[/name_u], and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] that SO has agreed to, but we’re wanting a list of at least 5 to choose from.
I think I’m finding it hard because [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] have always been everything to me, and my SO really despises them! I keep hoping that they might grow on him, but it’s been over a year since he vetoed them and it’s not looking like he’ll warm up to them any time soon.
So…what are your opinions on these following names?
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
Hmmm, if you’re planning on having multiple kids is there any way you might be able to compromise letting you use [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] or [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] (whichever he dislikes less) if he gets to use one of his favorites (that you don’t despise) on another kid? That’s how I’m getting my way with using a “Guilty Pleasure” boy name I’ve been in love with for years. My DH knows how much the name means to me and although he’s not a fan We’ve talked many times and come to a decision that since I’m not as big on girl names that he can take the lead on helping create that short list as long as they’re not names I hate.
Or maybe you can convince him to let you use a beloved vetoed name as a middle at least, which might help you feel less resentment towards the names on your shortlist that you just don’t quite love as much. That way you can feel better about using one of the names farther down on your favorites list. Maybe if there was a nickname for one of the vetoed names he could accept it might make him reconsider.
Also, I suggest keep looking for a new name to fall in love with especially if it turns out you’re right that there is no hope of using the ones he’s vetoed. If you’re just not excited anymore about the names from your list he’s accepted maybe it’s time to let a few of those names go and collect new ones to flesh out your short lists.
As for the four you wanted options on,
I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is a good one and while it matches your vetoed [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] it sounds a little boring next to your other name choices. I like it though.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] is really cute and you do seem to like P names as I see a few on your list. I think it’s a bit more popular than some of your other girl choices, though [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is a more uncommon nn I believe.
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] fits in right well with your other choices and [name_f]Milly[/name_f] is real cute. It seems to hit the rarer obscure feel as your other girl names the best.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f] is the one that while long and pretty like the others, just feels slightly off. [name_f]Eva[/name_f] doesn’t quite have the same vibe as [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Milly[/name_f].
Good luck growing and forming your list and I hope you start to love some of the choices even if you completely have to scrap the two he vetoed.
I like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (although I prefer [name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and Lo as nn’s), while I dislike [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]. I wonder if you’d like [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] since you can’t use [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]? Another name that might fit your taste is [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]. Since you favor the letter P, I’ll also throw in [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] and [name_u]Prairie[/name_u], two of my personal favorites.
I wholeheartedly love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but never been a fan of [name_f]Antigone[/name_f], sorry.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - I love, love, love this. It sounds like a great sister to [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], but not so much with, say, [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]. And it has very different vibe from [name_f]Antigone[/name_f]. So if you’re looking for an alternative, I don’t think it’s the one, but if you do love [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] on its own, lovely choice!
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] - I love the nickname [name_f]Milly[/name_f], but not a fan of [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] itself, sorry. It’s just me though. I can’t find anything wrong about it except because it’s nms.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - I’ve always been neutral about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. It’s not my favourite, but I do see the appeal. And it does sound great next to your other favourites. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] to me is like halfway between the bright, cheery [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and more serious-sounding [name_f]Antigone[/name_f].
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - love it. Sounds great and feels just right among your other names.
Not sure if you even still want suggestions or not (feel free to ignore if not), but I want to second [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] (as suggested above) and add a few more: [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], [name_m]Marius[/name_m], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] (well not if you end up using [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] first), [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this! It just sounds so grand and beautiful
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f] - I’m not personally a fan of [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]. I dislike the cent sound at the end
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f] - [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] has been growing on me. I adore the nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is brilliant. Strong, but cute.
angelicaecb: Unfortunately that will most likely not work for us as my SO absolutely hates [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]…and he doesn’t have any suggestions of his own. He either hates a name or finds it okay so far. I have gone through nearly nearly the entire alphabet of Nameberry’s lists with him and the names he likes are similar to [name_f]Cadence[/name_f], Allira, [name_u]Akira[/name_u], [name_u]Dakota[/name_u], etc…names that are really not my style and I could never agree to, so he’s suggested I be the only suggestor of names and see how many he agrees to haha.
He has said I can use any vetoed name as middle names however as he doesn’t really care about middles. I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], and [name_f]Florence[/name_f], but I would like a minimum of five names to choose from if possible…I just am on the fence with every other name I like that SO agrees to…I like them, but don’t think they have a chance at being THE name. I’ll definitely keep searching as we’re planning on being team green as well.
mayday: I’ve tried to like [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] for the exact same reason, but I can’t get part the [name_f]Roz[/name_f]- sound unfortunately. I am on the fence with [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] and [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u], but I’ll note them down and see if they grow on me.
luneth: I considered [name_m]Edward[/name_m], but unfortunately it’s too popular for my liking in my country, same goes for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] and [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] have been vetoed as well, and [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] are unusable for us.
We have both agreed on [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] in the past, but I’ve recently fallen out of love with it…it’s still on our longer list to see if that changes. I’ll definitely suggest [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
I adore [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], it’s my grandfathers name and my partners grandfathers middle name, both are deceased. I really pushed for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but in the end it didn’t work out. I still absolutely adore it.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f] was the first name we ever fell in love with together, my partners grandmother is [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and I just thought it was the sweetest nod to her.
