I seem to be in a bit of an odd period with my names where there’s a lot of contemplation. I think these may be the final four under consideration, but, I feel like I should love these names, but there’s something holding me back that I can’t put my finger on.
Please be completely honest about the names so that way I can have some feedback
That doesn’t change the fact that I don’t think they sound nice. Invented or not. Maybe if you want a biblical name here are my suggestions:
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
I wasn’t trying to be rude but you did ask to be completely Honest and to talk you into or out of them
I adore [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f], it sounds both strong and delicate at the same time; it’s got one of those sounds that’s just really satisfying to say too. Definitely my favourite on your list. I also like [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f] and Scheherazade which feel quite similar; maybe less usable, but similar.
[name_f]Keturah[/name_f] isn’t me, and I dislike [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] because of the only girl I know with the name.
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is pretty I suppose, but there’s something about it I can’t love. I much prefer [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] (I know twins called [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] which I think is strangely brilliant).
And I’m aware of that, I just found it a bit silly when a simple click could tell you they are not invented.
I do like [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] though, thank you.
@oliviasarah - I think [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f] is probably my favourite too! It’s the name of the main character in a children’s book that I loved growing up - [name_f]Hitty[/name_f] - Her First Hundred Years. [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphi[/name_f], that sounds rather mismatched, but gorgeous at the same time [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] sounds really lovely too though. Hmmmm.
I’m not really a fan of [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f], [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] or [name_f]Keziah[/name_f]. Something about them just doesn’t appeal to me. [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is nice though. Its elegant and pretty at the same time, plus it offers the cute nickname [name_f]Delphi[/name_f].
All I love, but Mehitable has to be my favorite. You could nickname her [name_f]Hetty[/name_f], [name_f]Hitty[/name_f], Mitty, or even [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], which I adore. It hasn’t enjoyed the same popularity it moderately did in Puritan times but found some rejuvenation in the 1920s with cat cartoon. [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] is cute, especially because you can use one my all time favorite nicknames [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]. [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] sounds truely Biblical and has a wonderful nature meaning – the cassia tree. I might slicken it down to [name_f]Kezia[/name_f]. [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] doesn’t seem to fit this Biblical obscurities list, but I do think it is a lovely name similar to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] with a softer sound. Other Biblical names I like are [name_f]Bathsheba[/name_f] (weird, right?), [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] (so many cool nicknames!), [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] (probably a GP, but you can dream…), [name_f]Persis[/name_f] (love it to nickname my daughter [name_u]Percy[/name_u]), [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] (not really Biblical, but a feminization of a Biblical name), and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (my favorite). I like the suggestion of [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], but I think the [name_m]French[/name_m] variation Magdeleine is cuter. There’s also [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f] and [name_f]Eunice[/name_f], but those are more on the extreme side than the names you picked.
I like [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] the most because it’s such a unique and memorable name but also has a nice sound. Mehitable does sound a little try hard and people might have trouble pronouncing it but I like the interesting look and sound of it. [name_f]Keziah[/name_f], not my favorite honestly but not ugly, just not my style. Now [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] does sound elegant when spoken in english but I can never like the name because it sounds just like the Spanish word for dolphin and I would never want to name my daughter dolphin.
I thin [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] and [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] are all usable. I really like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] (and [name_f]Delphinia[/name_f]) and I think it fits well with your favorites. [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] is really pretty but its NMS. [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] is just eh for me, I like your other names better. I’m not sure how [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f] is supposed to be pronounced, so I’m going to say no to that one, but I like how it is old and biblical.
Could never like [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] or see what those who like it see, it just reminds me of dolphin. I love [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] though and [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f] rolls off the tongue wonderfully. I don’t care for [name_f]Keturah[/name_f].
None of them are to my taste really, [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] isn’t my kind of name but I can see its sweet delicate charm, it’s the one I would go for, it won’t date and will take a child anywhere in life, it also isn’t too popular but still sounds familiar - win win with [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. [name_f]Mehitabel[/name_f] is the worst, unpronounceable, and has the horrible southern belle sound on the end. [name_f]Keturah[/name_f] and [name_f]Keziah[/name_f] are recognizable biblical names and perhaps in [name_u]America[/name_u] would fit right in, but I think they will date really fast, they’re very much a trend of their time and for that reason lose their uniqueness.
