Talk me OUT of Cecilee

It is spelt this way for personal reasons. I just hate that it means blind. Help me hate this name!

The name has a nice sound (read SES-uh-lee), but I read this spelling as rather masculine as CECIL jumps out at me right away and makes me want to say SEEsill-e

@mistymorning This is exactly what I was going to say. I read it immediately as See-sill-ee/Cecil-ee, even though I know [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]/Cecilee would be sess-uh-lee.

It means blind. Would your child to be blind?!?

It looks weird (?) and would get misspelled often

My main qualm with Cecilee is that, like some previous commenters, I want to say SEE-sih-lee when I see this spelling, rather than SEH-sih-lee. I could see the potential pronunciation issues getting annoying.

Not sure why but I agree that this is definitely SEE-sel-ee as opposed to [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].

It looks a bit clunky and the meaning isn’t the most pleasant

The spelling looks weird and seems like a combo of [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] + lee.

PS if you are religious you can use for example faith as a middle name, and the combo will mean blind faith. Blind meaning isn’t necessarily bad.

The spelling of this name is always so hard for me. Especially spelling it like this. I can never remember where there’s an e and where there’s an i and which order they go in. If I, as an adult, struggle with this, I can only imagine how difficult it would be to help a child learn how to spell their name. There are so many sounds in it too. A little kid is going to have a really hard time learning to pronounce this name and how to introduce themselves to others and tell them their name. A lot of these sounds don’t come for kids until they are much older.

Well, the spelling is strange. But most importantly, the name is originally Greek, so the C would be pronounced as a K, not like an S. So the name is actually Kekilee.

For the record, I like [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], but:
The spelling of the Cecilee is odd and most people won’t spell it that way intuitively.
It’s easily misheard as [name_f]Sicily[/name_f] or [name_f]Cicely[/name_f].
The supposed meaning is not pleasant (though it’s debatable if that’s the true meaning).

If you want to be talked out, I think the name is likely to be spelled wrong. I love the name [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], but the -lee spelling (though it does seem to have personal meaning so I totally get it!) may throw people off.

Could you go with [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] or [name_f]Celia[/name_f]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]? I think that sounds so pretty and (if I remember right) [name_f]Celia[/name_f] means “heavenly.”

I hear See Silly. Not a good name. I love [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].
