Talk to me about Nathaniel

Working on our lists over my last pregnancy and now this new one, I surprised myself a little by adding [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] to the boys’ side, and currently it’s on the shortlist (which admittedly still has loads of time to change.)

It’s such a warm name. It has a great meaning. I like that it has similar length to Deliverance, familiarity like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], and shares the -an sound with [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]. (I initially added it when I was specifically looking for a name to balance Tobias.) I like the nn Nat–I think of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] “Nat” Bowditch, and [name_u]Nat[/name_u] [name_m]Eaton[/name_m] from The Witch of Blackbird Pond.
I suppose we can’t rule out that he could go by [name_m]Nate[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]. Those are fine, but I know a lot of Nathans, and a church friend plus one of my cousins go by [name_m]Nate[/name_m].

What do you think? Is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] a little lackluster in our set, or does he hold his own?

I love [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]! The meaning is perfect for a baby

I don’t think that [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is odd with your other children; in fact, I think he really compliments the set! Especially love [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] together!

[name_f]My[/name_f] teenage cousin is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and his parents also did not like the nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. He actually goes by Than, with a soft th sound! I’ve never heard it anywhere else

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is great! I love how he ties together your other kids’ names, and I particularly love the nickname [name_u]Nat[/name_u] for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. There’s also [name_m]Niel[/name_m] if you don’t like [name_m]Nate[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathan[/name_m].

[name_u]Nat[/name_u] is somehow so much better than [name_m]Nate[/name_m]! It goes really well with [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] in particular.

I really like [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] - I hear [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] often, but [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] rarely - it’s elegant, warm and appealing

I like [name_m]Nathanial[/name_m] - it, [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] & Deliverance are all shades of blue in my mind.

Out of curiosity, what color is [name_m]Ransom[/name_m]?

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is gorgeous :teddy_bear:

I think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is lovely he’s strong, reliable, handsome and has a soft cuddly feel. [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] has the lovely meaning ‘gift of G-d’ and I think [name_u]Nat[/name_u] is a fab nickname. I also agree that [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] fits in perfectly with your sibling set sharing the length of Deliverance, similar sounds to [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] and feels in keeping with [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] overall very in keeping with sibling set.

[name_f]My[/name_f] son’s first middle name is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] It hadn’t really been on our radar either but we used it as an honor name. I also love how warm, literary, old-fashioned and friendly it sounds! Several of the nurses at the hospital loved it, too! B

I think it fits very well with your sibset! Normally, I would feel like such a “common” name would stick out like a sore thumb with more unsual siblings. However, all of these names have a remarkable way of sounding like they belong together. They all remind me of Puritan times and I love that about them.

Aww! I don’t think I knew you used [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]

I’m glad you think he fits. Of course we have lots of time to talk names, if all goes well, but unlike my pregnancy with Deliverance, this time it already feels less like “We can’t even agree on ONE name we love!” and more like “How will we choose just one??” It really is only one for a boy, too, since the middle name (John) is already set.
We had settled on [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] last time, after a ton of debate, and he’s still the frontrunner, but there are so many other great options! I am really loving Brannoc and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. And we haven’t even talked much about [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] yet…

oh oh! I’ve been struck by a love for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] recently and I think he’s just great. it’s such a cuddly, warm and timeless name that could work for just about anyone and fits in almost any list. [name_u]Nat[/name_u] is an adorable nickname, and really freshens the name to me :tulip:

I think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] fits into your set beautifully! It has the same warm tones that I get from Deliverance and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Ransom[/name_m] feels both warm and cool. I know one who goes by [name_m]Nate[/name_m], but I personally prefer [name_u]Nat[/name_u]!

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is a lovely lively boy who grows into a handsome and reliable young man. He is loving and kind. Ambitious, but never ruthless.

I don’t think you have to have [name_m]Nate[/name_m] as a nn. I’d be more inclined to use Nathe. The th gives a much softer sound. Otherwise it would be [name_u]Nat[/name_u].
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is a cool and exciting name.
