My DH has shot down any boy name ending in the letter -o; he just isn’t a fan. He seems pretty set on what the options are if we were to have another boy.
He has agreed that we will honor my side of the family this go around. His name choices are [name]Marcus[/name] and [name]Victor[/name]. My father is named [name]Victor[/name] and I have a brother and step-brother named [name]Marc[/name]. Of the two names I prefer [name]Victor[/name]. We would use [name]John[/name] as the middle name to honor my maternal grandfather. This name was brought up 3years ago when we were trying to find a name for our 3yr old. It was shot down by people on here because of the initials VJ. So tell me, do you really hear or think va-jay-jay, when you hear VJ? I have to be completely honest with myself when it comes to the name [name]Victor[/name], I will more than likely end up calling a little boy with that name [name]Vic[/name] or VJ. My father goes by [name]Butch[/name]. If VJ is a such a horrible nickname do you all have any other ideas of what could work with [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name]? Some other [name]Roman[/name] or Greek name that we could use as a cute nickname?
I would hav never thought Va- jay- jay for VJ. I don’t think most people would. I know a little guy that goes by BJ, and no one had brought that connotation up with him…
I say go for it, its a nice strong name!
If it makes you feel better I don’t hear Va-jay-jay!
I do think of VJ 9 as in MTV Video Jockey!.. anyone else a child of the 80’s? LOL!
And unless you actually PLAN on calling him VJ then who cares! If he is going to go by [name]Victor[/name] thats a great name and I say go for it!
It’s rare to even use a middle name initial… when I initial things i use my first and last initial NOt my middle!
To me initials aren’t that big a deal as long as they don’t spell something like “ASS”. I wouldn’t call him VJ though. [name]Just[/name] call him [name]Vic[/name] if you have to shorten it. Otherwise, I would call him by his full name, [name]Victor[/name]. Most people aren’t going to know his middle initial anyway. Typically, when people initial things they use first and last initials, so no worries. Unless of course your last name also starts with J.
I’m not that big of a fan of them either. But I just think [name]Victor[/name] is too, I don’t know, formal, compared to [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Troy[/name].
[name]Victor[/name] is a great name! I would never ever have thought of va-jay-jay. I don’t know anyone who uses that term, and honestly I feel a little silly even typing it. When I hear VJ, I automatically think of VJ [name]Day[/name] and the end of the war in the [name]Pacific[/name] in WWII, but I’m probably a bit odd…
Va-jay-jay is a relatively new term and not necessarily one that will stand the test of time. I wouldn’t avoid the initials just for that reason, although I’m not a fan of initials as nicknames and would probably just go with [name]Vic[/name].
My son’s name is [name]Victor[/name]. It’s such a friendly and spunky and all boy name without being super macho, and super international to boot - I love it. If you are really worried about VJ, maybe you could stick a second middle in there [name]Victor[/name] _______ [name]John[/name] __________?
We use [name]Vic[/name] sometimes for our [name]Victor[/name] but we didn’t plan to, it just suits him. Also sometimes VV, which are his first/last initials.
