Top 2 names on my list at the minute and I’m looking for opinions please do they match as a sibset? Would you automatically go to nicknames? [name_m]Can[/name_m] you see adults with these names?
Is [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] too tied to Bugsy [name_u]Malone[/name_u]? Would [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] have too many spelling queries? Any other names you’d suggest?
I LOVE this sibset!! Both are so gorgeous, underused, spunky names that make stunning sisters.
I know a few Tallulahs (I do not know anything about Bugsy [name_u]Malone[/name_u], lol!) and while most of them are kids/teens, I can definitely picture her on an adult.
I have yet to meet any Jessamines but she feels very elegant but playful, I can definitely see her on an adult too!
People would probably call [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] Jess/Jessie once or twist, but I wouldn’t say so for [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]. As always, nicknames are avoidable, though!
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps, [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] are dreamy together!
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] is lovely - bright, bubbly and fun! It’s got elegance too and I think it could work on any age.
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is sleek, floral and bright - I think it sounds different but familiar enough that it wouldn’t be too badly misspelled.
I think [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] sound great! I wouldn’t immediately go to nicknames for other people/other people’s children, but if they were my own, I might go to:
[name_f]Lula[/name_f], [name_u]Tallie[/name_u], or [name_u]Tully[/name_u]
[name_u]Jess[/name_u], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or [name_u]Jem[/name_u]
I think they’re ok together. They just seem (to me) like different personalities. I have tried to come up with other wording, but the only way I think I can accurately describe my first impression is that one’s a lady and one is a flirt.
Nicknames level the playing field a bit more. [name_f]Lula[/name_f] & [name_f]Jessa[/name_f], [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] & [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], those are pretty even.
Other ideas that come to mind:
These names are gorgeous and usable! I love them! I’ve especially got a soft spot for [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], and I’d love to meet one. (Definitely doesn’t feel tied to Bugsy Malone.)
Ooh; I love the idea of a [name_u]Tally[/name_u] name with a [name_u]Jess[/name_u] name—they work really well together! I like but don’t adore Tallulah… I always think of the [name_u]Cherokee[/name_u] roots to the name over the Irish… and I struggle to commit? [name_f]My[/name_f] grandpa swore we had [name_u]Cherokee[/name_u] ancestry but we’ve never been able to verify that and it seems insensitive to me to use [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] because of that. (Like I say, I always forget about the [name_u]Irish[/name_u] ties… I am not saying for others it is culturally insensitive… I just can’t get past it myself.). But it is a beautiful name.
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is nice, but I personally prefer [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] or even the related [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] and [name_f]Yasmin[/name_f]. But either way, I think all four names work brilliantly with [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]! I think it’s a winning pair.
[name_u]Perfect[/name_u] sibset! Substantial yet soft, and the vibes match so perfectly: sweet, warm, spritely, spring-time. And the subtle nature meanings connection (“leaping water” and “jasmine”) is lovely too.
.
Nickname-wise, I think [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] don’t have natural enough nicknames that people would go straight for them , but I could easily see [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] being called [name_u]Jess[/name_u] (all the Jessicas I know get called [name_u]Jess[/name_u] off the bat). There are other more fun nickname options though: [name_f]Lula[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], or [name_u]Tully[/name_u] and [name_f]Jinny[/name_f]?
.
Tallulah’s increasing popularity has majorly separated it from Bugsy [name_u]Malone[/name_u] for me.
.
Other suggestions that somewhat match the vibe:
*Aveline - A bit more out there but not too much.
[name_u]Celeste[/name_u]
*Coraline - The -ine ending may be top similar though despite the different pronunciation. Soft and substantial.
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
Elspeth/Elsbeth
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] - Soft and Substantial ™. Again with that -ine ending though.
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - So much more popular but fits so well.
i think tallulah and jessamine are perfect together !! i think they’re really sparkly, cool, and versatile. i can totally imagine a tallulah or jessamine at any age.
i wouldn’t go to a nickname for tallulah at all (if we were really close she might become lula or lu, but it’s not certain), though to be honest, i think it’s unlikely a jessamine wouldn’t slip into jess. i try not to nickname people if they haven’t explicitly asked me to, and would probably use her full name. but jess is right there, and i’ve never met a jessica who avoided a nickname in the same way i’ve never met an alexander who avoided a nickname. i imagine jessamine would get the same treatment.
tallulah isn’t tied to bugsy malone to me at all, and i was actually in a production of bugsy malone as a tween, so i think you’re all good. jessamine will likely need to be spelt, but so will tallulah. i genuinely believe that almost every name will need to be spelt at least half the time (i’m a pippa living in england and i always have to give my name several times and spell it out slowly. it is what it is). they’re both pretty intuitive though, so it shouldn’t require re-correction.
other names with a similar vibe to tallulah and jessamine:
A very interesting set! I can see why you think they match - in a way, they both have a very flowy, naturey and almost “hippy” vibe (but in a good way).
[name_f]My[/name_f] only concern is that [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] would automatically get [name_u]Jess[/name_u] the same way any other [name_u]Jess[/name_u] name would and I don’t like the nickname.
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] would get [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] or [name_f]Lula[/name_f], but I’d say with less frequency.
I didn’t make the association with [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] would be spelt fine. If you want to go with [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], pick another nickname, e.g. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] / [name_u]Sammy[/name_u], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_u]Mina[/name_u]
